Army Portfolio of Value

The Army POV focuses on sustaining legacy weapon systems and attendant forging supply chains while supporting new weapon system development.  Emphasis is placed on simulation, new forging materials, and rapid tooling. The U.S. Army POV will also benefit from the other Portfolios of Value.

Within the Army Portfolio of Value, the FDMC now provides prototyping while investigating, developing and deploying innovative concepts to improve forging supply chains.

Scope:

  1. Investigate, develop and deploy a process for designing and acquiring prototype forgings.
  2. Identify relevant research that is required to advance the state of the art
  3. Benchmark best practices for the Department of Defense to improve its prototyping processes.

Goals:

  1. Produce prototype forgings for the Department of defense.
  2. Integrate relevant research and development into the production of these prototypes.
  3. Validate technical data packages including prototype drawings, prototype solid models, quality assurance provisions (QAPs) and Supplementary Quality Assurance Provisions (SQAPs).

This prototyping process is available to other DOD agencies seeking reductions in leadtime to acquire prototyped forged components for testing or Low Rate of Initial Production.
