Automatic Collage Layout

Produce a unique arrangement for a selection of pictures with a single click. Click again and see a completely new arrangement. The results can be tuned with interactive control over cropping, sizing, rotation, etc if desired.

Many users find that a simple autocollage is all they need to elegantly present their images. Others view autocollages as starting points for further creativity.

Integrated Online Library

LumaPix and the dotScrap Alliance offer an ever-growing database of beautiful and sophisticated elements, templates and complete projects.

You can search this database directly from the FotoFusion interface and download content right into your layout; it’s like having iTunes® built into Photoshop®!

Templates

FotoFusion supports templates – those which you create on your own, and those which you select from the online library by browsing within the FotoFusion interface.

Templates can be multipage, enabling you to create an entire album in a single template. The empty frames within templates can be filled with a click of the ‘AutoPopulate’ button.

Your templates can include text frames, which specify not only which font and color were used but also which EXIF tags are used to label frames; dropping an image into a template with text on it can set the label on that image to, say, that student’s name or the date and time on which the picture was taken.

Improved Collage

FotoFusion’s patent-pending AutoCollage tool has been made even stronger in v4, with several enhancements:

1. Images can be sorted by name, file modification date, or EXIF date in addition to being randomized. A single click can lay out your entire vacation album!
2. The aspect ratio of source images can be preserved. A ‘traditional’ FotoFusion autocollage will completely fill the canvas, cropping images if necessary to make them fit. In v4, you can choose to have the images remain uncropped (even if it means leaving holes in your layout).

Keywords

Images in your collection can be tagged with keywords using the new Organizer in FotoFusion v4.

Type ‘br’ to find all the pictures of your Bride – FotoFusion searches the entire database with each keystroke!

Dragging an image into a category automatically assigns keywords, so you can type to search or browse by category as you like.

Categories

Organize your images into custom, hierarchical categories that you define.

Dragging an image into a subcategory automatically adds it to all parent categories – so for example dragging a picture of your father into the ‘Dad’ category tags it with ‘family’ and ‘people’ as well (so you can search for and find all family members easily).

Buckets

A ‘bucket’ holds images that are grouped by any criteria you like, as a stepping-stone to deeper organization.

Use the arrow keys to move from image to image in the organizer, and tap the number key (1) to drop the selected images into the bucket. Your bucket will allow you to select the images you want to work with and quickly move them from the Organizer to your canvas.

Ratings

Images and other content can be rated, allowing you to indicate how well you like particular shots in your database and then search to find only the best shots of a particular subject.

Search

FotoFusion’s search engine helps you find content quickly – both locally and on the LumaPix servers.

Once you have assigned keywords, ratings, or other attributes to your images, you can search and find those images instantly. FotoFusion searches the entire database for each key that you type (so if you type ‘gr’, images that you have tagged with ‘Groom’ will be found).

FotoFusion also searches the LumaPix server for content, finding not only images but complete Kits, Templates, and Page Layout Guides; it’s like having Google built for graphics and directly integrated with Photoshop!

Paper & Digital Templates

The dotScrap Alliance is a new Scrapbooking industry consortium based around FotoFusion – including K & Company, Creative Imaginations, Daisy D’s, Westrim, KI Memories, L’il Davis, Scrapbook.com, ScrapJazz.com, MyCliqueTV, SEI, and more.

Paper kits found in retail stores that are marked with ‘dotScrap Ready’ have easily-downloaded FotoFusion templates to make the paper kits even easier to work with.

Resolution Independence

FotoFusion stores references to images as opposed to permanently resizing images to make them fit into your layout. Any image manipulation you perform (cropping, rotating, resizing, color correction, etc) are all remembered as changes to that original image and not as new images.

The result is striking creative freedom for you – you can change your mind at any time, and make as many adjustments as you like, without fear that your image quality will be degraded.

Interactive User Interface

FotoFusion’s innovative user interface is “real time all the time”: updates are shown immediately, with no ‘ok’ buttons or one-way decisions to make.

Drag controls to set shadow distance and opacity. Drag borders to set the thickness and inset of frame edges. Swap pictures in a snap, crop images interactively, work with multiple selections as easily as with a single frame. It’s all done fluidly and without hesitation.

Smart Content

dotScrap content sets a new standard for graphics.

FotoFusion’s intelligent graphical objects act the way you expect: envelopes that hold images, paperclips and pins that hold paper, frames that can be reshaped without stretching, and multi-layer elements that age text and photographs.

Easily found by keyword search, visual browsing or entering a dotScrap ID; downloaded quickly from the LumaPix servers; and consistantly high quality – dotScrap is going to change how you work with graphics.

Default Handling

Changes to frame borders, text attributes, and other settings can automatically update FotoFusion’s default values, which are applied when new frames and text objects are created. You can also manually set the default or reset the current selection to the default values.

Non-Destructive Editing

FotoFusion never forces you to make a “one-way decision” – no creative decision you make is ever permanent.

Color correct your images, resize frames as many times as you like, crop images and then zoom back out, rotate your images ten times in a row – and never lose quality or change your original image.

At render time, FotoFusion will follow the references in your composition back to the original images and apply all of your image effects, titling, masking etc to produce a pristine final high-definition image – no matter what resolution you select.

E-mail

Mail your creations to friends or customers as super-efficient composite images embedded directly in your emails.

For example, you can fit dozens of pictures covering an entire wedding into a single 200K mail!

Recipients using dial-up lines will appreciate being able to see your work, and everybody will remark on how attractively your images have been presented.

Print Quality

When you print a layout, FotoFusion communicates directly with your printer – rendering your layout at exactly the resolution needed by your printer to output the job without scaling.

Any images included in your layout are reloaded and processed at their final sizes, with all image effects, text RIPping, and matte effects applied pixel-for-pixel in the final printout.

The result is printed output of exceptional quality, from home printers up to studio professional output devices. You will be amazed at how crisp and vivid the results are.

Reversible Printing

Text

Text can be edited using the same conventions for sizing, rotating, and positioning objects as FotoFusion uses for images.

Any TrueType font installed on your system will work with FotoFusion.

Text can be sized by resizing the frame that holds it, or by specifying a particular locked size. Color, border thickness and opacity, justification, bold and italic attributes, and even blurriness can be controlled in real time.

Borders

Borders around images can be resized interactively, set to any color using a color picker, made translucent, and inset.

Select multiple borders and change them all at the same time.

Set your favorite look as a default and have subsequent frames take on those characteristics.

Ragged edges and other effects are supported; any image you can create (as a bitmap or a vector image) can be used as a matte to cut your image away. Mattes can be blurred and cast shadows correctly.

Backgrounds

Canvas backgrounds can be composed of flat colors, tiled textures, or images (and blends of all three).

Textures can be tiled and blurred; images can be color corrected, and colors can be translucent.

A blurry, desaturated, partially transparent background image can be created as fast as you can say the words!

Shadows

Shadows add realism to your layouts; they are a critical tool and are front and center in the FotoFusion user interface.

FotoFusion provides the fastest and most intuitive shadow manipulation in any application. Dropping a shadow, setting the distance from the object being manipulated, and adjusting the softness of the shadow takes one click and a dragging motion.

You can drop shadows from multiple selected objects, and adjust transparency, angle, color, and other parameters.

Grouping

Grouped objects can be moved, sized, cut and pasted as a single object.

FotoFusion offers two ways to group objects – with access to group members, or without.

• With access, group members can be directly manipulated – so you don’t have to ungroup the selection in order to individually tweak the position of group members.
• Without group access, the group feels like a single object – clicking on any group member will select the group.

Red Eye Removal

Easily remove Red-Eye from pictures without relying on external tools.

Custom Gradients

Apply one of six gradient styles to your images, and adjust the angle, midpoint, highlight and other features to achieve the perfect fade on your images.

Matte Cutter

Extract portions of your images without touching the original. This custom tool allows you to easily free-hand trace around any portion of your image to separate it from the background.

Web Galleries

If you maintain a web server, you can publish compositions directly from the FotoFusion interface to your own web server as HTML-based web pages.

The size and compression settings for collages and the associated source images can be configured independently. Hotlinks from the collage to the source images or URLs that you specify are automatically created as image maps that you simply load and display; the user clicks on the layout and is redirected wherever your like.

HTML themes can be selected at publish time, enabling web designers to configure their own look & feel and have the galleries match existing web page styles.

Flat Image Files

All versions of FotoFusion can render to standard graphic file formats, including JPEG, BMP, TIF, PNG and GIF, with control over compression settings.

You can select the resolution you want to render at – the higher the resolution the higher the quality of output. Consult the version differences page to see the rendering limits for each variant of FotoFusion.

Note that PSD and PDF export are available in FotoFusion Extreme.

Multipage Support

FotoFusion Extreme offers support for multi-page compositions – critical for wedding and team photographers doing album layouts.

It’s like working in Powerpoint instead of Photoshop – all your work is held in a single project, reducing the number of files you need to keep track of.

More importantly, the ability to jump from page to page, cutting images from one page and pasting them in another, will shave hours off your layout jobs and accelerate your studio’s pipeline. It’s all about speed, and FotoFusion delivers.

PSD and PDF Export

In addition to JPG, PNG, TIF, BMP and GIF, FotoFusion can now export to multi-page PDF and, if the content contains no downloaded dotScrap content, as layers in a PSD file for further work in Photoshop and other editing tools.

Frames, shadows, and images are rendered as separate layers for each object in the FotoFusion layout. This enables you to apply the full suite of Photoshop tools to components of your FotoFusion composition as a post-processing step.

Multipage E-mail & Publish

Output all pages by a simple click in a batch process.

Send a single email to your client with all the pages automatically or publish to a personal webserver by a click of a button.

FotoFusion::Extreme takes away the hassel of processing induvidual pages one by one, saving your valuable time and effort.

Color Space Tagging

FotoFusion gives you control over whether your images are converted to a new profile or left in their native profile.

For example, if you build a layout out of images shot in Adobe RGB, FotoFusion can…

• convert your images to sRGB and tag the output with sRGB
• pass your images through and tag the output with the profile common to all input images (Adobe RGB)
• pass your images through and tag the output with a profile that you choose

Set your monitor and printer color settings to create a perfectly customized color profile settings for your workflow.

Page Size Improvements

FotoFusion v4 supports several enhancements to canvas settings, including

• Asymmetrical bleed and gutter areas – you can now have a 1″ gutter and a 1/2″ edge, for example
• Typed pages (single page, album side, and two-page spread) – useful for keeping track of page numbers, whether this is a left or right-side layout, and whether the page can be split into two separate sides at rendering.
