IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS) is pleased to announce the IEEE-EMBS Special Topic Conference on Point-Of-Care (POC) Healthcare Technologies Conference in Bangalore, India on January 16-18, 2013 at the Sheraton Bangalore at Brigade Gateway.

The conference will focus on innovation, research, technology development and best practices in deployment of health monitoring technologies in developing and developed economies for better global healthcare. The conference will feature research presentations and technology panel discussions and forums on recent technological advances and global issues on implementation of POC technologies. Though the challenges of providing high-quality healthcare in developing countries are different than those in developed countries, there is a common aspiration to provide access to health monitoring and assessment technologies to people with limited or no healthcare facilities. While the developed countries may find POC technologies as effective means for reducing healthcare costs and improving efficiency, POC technologies are critical in responding to essential healthcare needs in countries with large populations or rural areas. Statics have shown that more than two-third (2/3) of the developing countries population are now facing the basic challenge of providing minimal healthcare to all people living in adverse geographical or economic constraints, and also monitoring critical diseases and infections such as HIV/AIDS, TB, malaria, etc. The challenge becomes even more critical in the situation of potential outbreak of an epidemic.

The conference will provide an international forum to explore POC health monitoring technologies that could play significantly important role model in “well-being” of a healthy society with increasing proportion of elderly people. Moreover, the conference will provide a unique global networking opportunity with leading researchers, medical students and industry professionals, and policy makers in innovative healthcare technologies.

Plenary and keynote talks will be presented by internationally known researchers, industry leaders and policy makers along with panel discussions focused on challenges and future trends in Point-of-Care technologies in developing and developed countries towards improving global healthcare. Selected research and technology development presentations will be featured through oral (platform) and poster sessions.
