In RIFT®, you adventure as one of the Ascended, a Telaran slain during the great Shade War and resurrected to combat the forces of the Blood Storm. As an Ascended, you have access to special powers, the greatest of which is Soul Attunement, the ability to embrace the souls of Telara's ancient heroes.
The Soul Attunement system offers nearly endless customization. You’re encouraged to experiment with many combinations of souls and abilities to discover the path that’s right for you!
Souls are at the heart of the Ascended experience – from the life-leeching Warlock to the sharpshooting Marksman, they offer special traits and signature abilities mastered by the figures of Telara’s past. Players start by choosing a combination of three of these souls, known as a Purpose, from one of four Callings (Warrior, Cleric, Mage, or Rogue).
Each soul is represented by a unique Soul Tree. As your character levels up, you earn Soul Points to spend on your Soul Trees’ unique abilities and traits.
To grant new skills to your character and open higher-tier abilities, spend Soul Points on your trees' "branch" abilities.
You unlock new "root" skills for your character as you spend Soul Points on branch abilities. While Soul Tree branches represent the unique choices you make to customize your character, roots represent core powers of the soul that all players can access.
Your first Purpose provides a well-balanced Soul combination and suggests a pre-defined path for Soul Point spending. To explore additional Purposes, press “N” to access your Soul Tree panel and click the Calling Purposes icon. Browse through Purpose basics, play styles, tips, difficulty ratings, and more.
You are free to deviate from pre-built Purposes whenever you have Soul Points to spend. Save and switch between Purposes and custom Soul combinations by unlocking extra Roles at your Calling Trainer!
