Questions & Concerns About Crysis 3

By GameSpy Staff | PC Articles | Feb 14, 2013 6:11 PM | 0 Comments

Crysis 3 arrives in just a few days, and there are ads and flashy trailers everywhere you look telling you what's awesome about it. That means it's time for a reality check! Don't get us wrong: we're hoping this will be a return to form after a bit of a stumble in Crysis 2, and it's undeniably gorgeous, but what do we really know about how good it'll be, and what important questions remain unanswered? Here's your GameSpy-recommended dose of healthy pre-release skepticism: our five biggest questions and concerns about Crytek's latest shooter. Read More »

Special Forces: Team X Review

By Richard Cobbett | PC Reviews | Feb 14, 2013 4:59 PM | 0 Comments

Even with its dull title, Special Forces: Team X is surprisingly fun. You wouldn't think it had any aspirations beyond stealing the Most Generic Name Ever trophy from last year's beloved Prophecy Of The Shooter Man Chronicles: Origins, but no. This generous demo may not have many brand new ideas to bring to the genre, but its fast combat and slick cover system promise much when the full game comes out in... wait, what? This is the full game? Oh. Read More »

Server Mod Allows You To Fly In Chivalry

By Matthew Rorie | PC Articles | Feb 14, 2013 3:26 PM | 0 Comments

I haven't played much Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, but I've enjoyed what little of it I've experienced, and its online reputation seems to be solidly positive. One can only wonder what its makers will make of the server shown off in the video below, though, which has tweaked the game's gravity setting so that even knights in hundred-pound suits of armor are capable of flying hundreds of feet into the sky. What's more, the game's AI apparently interprets their sudden freedom from the fetters of gravity as a cause of impending death, meaning that...well, you just have to watch this. Read More »

Rejoice, For System Shock 2 is on GOG

By Taylor Cocke | PC News | Feb 14, 2013 2:20 PM | 0 Comments

It's true! It's true! System Shock 2 has finally emerged from the depths of being impossible to find legally. As reported earlier this week, the classic RPG has finally made its way to GOG. This is the first time it has been released since it first came out in 1999, a surprising feat for a game that is so well-regarded. Read More »

Blizzard Responds to Player Concerns About Diablo 3 Patch 1.0.7

By Taylor Cocke | PC News | Feb 14, 2013 11:12 AM | 0 Comments

Well, things seem to have settled down a bit after hours of server downtime after the release of Diablo 3 patch 1.0.7. Folks are making their way into the Scorched Chapel to take place in Brawls, the new PvP mode in the action-RPG. Of course, players had their concerns about the big changes, so the fine folks at Blizzard took some time to respond on their official forums. Read More »

Wildman Saved? Wargaming Buys Gas Powered

By Taylor Cocke | PC News | Feb 14, 2013 9:11 AM | 0 Comments

By now, you've probably heard of the troubled development process of Gas Powered Games' action-RPG Wildman. Last we heard, the Kickstarter to get it made was cancelled, and GPG founder Chris Taylor was focusing on saving his company. Well, it seems that he's figured that little problem out, as Wargaming has announced that they've picked up the Dungeon Siege and Demigod developer. Read More »

Newell: Valve Isn't Canceling Anything

By Dan Stapleton | PC News | Feb 13, 2013 4:56 PM | 0 Comments

After news of several layoffs at Valve earlier today (unusual at a private company that's swimming in cash), speculation ran wild that major change was afoot. Was Valve going to abandon its work on a Steambox or next-generation gamepad? Is the Linux gaming initiative a bust before it begins? Is Valve getting out of game development and focusing completely on Steam? Apparently it all got under Valve boss Gabe Newell's skin, because he took the "unusual step" of telling Engadget that the departure of these former employees doesn't mean Valve won't follow through on its plans. Valve Kind Enough to Show Us How Left 4 Dead 2's Extended Mutation System Works

By Taylor Cocke | PC News | Feb 13, 2013 1:26 PM | 0 Comments

There are times when game developers release their mod tools into the wild and say "Have fun!" to all those interested in playing around with them, and then proceed to not help anyone to understand how to use them. Not Valve, man. Not only are they releasing the Extended Mutation System, they've also laid out a blog on what you can do with it. What a bunch of nice folks. Read More »

Make It So: Watch the New Star Trek Trailer

By Taylor Cocke | PC News | Feb 13, 2013 12:38 PM | 0 Comments

Call me crazy, but I don't remember all that many explosions in the original Star Trek series. The JJ Abrams 2009 reboot had slightly more things go boom, but this trailer for the upcoming Trek game from Digital Extremes is just getting kind of silly. I'm already hoping for some downtime. But hey, at least it's exciting! Read More »

Brutal Legend Hell Bent for PC

By Taylor Cocke | PC News | Feb 13, 2013 11:20 AM | 0 Comments

Games by Double Fine tend to be solid, but not great. Regardless, their charm somehow manages to win me over every time. Brutal Legend is one of my favorites, and it's finally coming over to PC, according to an announcement on Double Fine boss Tim Schafer's Twitter feed. I'm really excited to play through the hack 'n' slash/RTS hybrid again, all the while listening to Jack Black's excellent voice acting. Plus, this announcement let me make a Judas Priest joke in the headline. That's a little added bonus, just for me. Read More »

Grow a Tech Grove in Europa Universalis IV

By Taylor Cocke | PC News | Feb 13, 2013 10:42 AM | 0 Comments

I'm going to come out and say it. I'd be terrible at running an empire. That's evidenced by the way I manage to be consistently awful at playing Paradox Interactive's variety of strategy games. The newest in their "Making you feel bad about your organizational skills" simulators is Europa Universalis IV. This trailer shows off some of the changes to the way technology trees work. And let me just say, I'm already a bit overwhelmed. Read More »

Tribes: Ascend to Get "Single Purchase" Option

By Taylor Cocke | PC News | Feb 12, 2013 1:46 PM | 0 Comments

Well, this seems rather backwards. While many games are going from full-priced to free-to-play, Tribes: Ascend is going the opposite. Sort of. According to this post on the Hi-Rez forums, they're planning on implementing an option to simply buy every unlock from the start, rather then picking them up piecemeal. Not a bad plan. I'm all for more choices, myself. Read More »

A Blue Dude Absolutely Wrecks Yellow Dudes in This Project Awakened Trailer

By Taylor Cocke | PC News | Feb 12, 2013 11:54 AM | 0 Comments

When Phosphor Games first announced its Project Awakened Kickstarter earlier this month, I was slightly apprehensive about their claims of endless character power customization options. But man, after watching this prototype footage, I'm beginning to believe them. This early alpha footage shows off what is apparently a small segment of the possible powers taht we'll get to toy around with. Even if all it shows off is a featureless blue dude killing featureless yellow guys, it still looks pretty awesome. Read More »

Na Na Na Na, Etc: New Batman Game This Year

By Taylor Cocke | PC News | Feb 12, 2013 11:06 AM | 0 Comments

It's a good couple of weeks for sneaky guys with hoods. Last week, we found out that there would be a new Assassin's Creed game, and today we've learned that WB will be bringing a new Batman in the vein of the Arkham games, as CVG reports. Wait, does Bats wear a hood? Is it a cowl? Do I even know what a cowl is? Judging by these Google results, I do not. Read More »
