Liguori Responds with Solidarity to News of the Pope's Resignation
Liguori Publications learned of Pope Benedict XVI's resignation with the rest of the world on Monday, February 11. read more The Holy Father accepted his election in 2005, and his 8-year papacy will be remembered for many achievements, notably, his continuation of the vision of his predecessor, Blessed Pope John Paul II for a New Evangelization within the Church, which began on October 11, 2012. He expressed his hope for our age in his apostolic letter, "Porta Fidei": "We must rediscover a taste for feeding ourselves on the word of God, faithfully handed down by the Church, and on the bread of life, offered as sustenance for his disciples."
The 85-year-old pontiff is a prolific communicator and the Eucharist was often his subject. In addition, he did not hesitate to draw, from the tradition, saintly examples of men and women who encourage us in our work today.
"Pope Benedict had to shift from filtering content and drawing distinctions that drew upon his deep academic training to approaching his responsibility as chiefly being a pastor, without ever compromising the Church's Tradition," said Father Mathew Kessler, CSsR, president and publisher, Liguori. "He authored positive messages on Eucharistic faith and love. His encyclicals on faith, hope, and love speak to a vision of the Christian life and what it means to develop as authentic men and women.”
Liguori Publications wishes Pope Benedict much success in this new stage of his life.hide
