About

spacer Established in 2007, Word of the Nerd started out as a simple blog.  It was one man and his dream.  Now it has grown from its very humble beginnings as one man’s dream into a full fledged way of life.  With the addition of a good friend and partner, WOTN quickly grew into something special.  It has become a labor of love for everyone involved.  We’re now 37 writers strong and growing.

Bringing out the inner nerd in everyone!

Be sure to Like us on Facebook, Follow us on Twitter at @thenerdonline and Add us to your Google+ circles by clicking here.  Help spread the Word of the Nerd!

We’re always eager to get the word out for new writers, artists, comics, any form of geekery.  If we can help, email us at [email protected] and we’ll be happy to feature you or your work on the site.  Go to our contacts page for more info.

If you’re an aspiring writer, part time blogger, or have a passion for comic books, video games, fantasy, technology or anything that we geeks love, then we’d love to have you join our team!  Just want to get some exposure for your website or blog?  Ask about joining our affiliated group of sites.

Our goal is to share our love of all things geek by building a community of like minded individuals.  To share our passion and help spread the word that being a nerd doesn’t make you an outcast, it makes you special.  Don’t get swallowed up by the big guys, keep yourself unique and special.  Help spread the word and bring out YOUR inner nerd!

About Bryan Brown

The Nerd – Or Bryan as many of us call him is the creative inspiration of Word of the Nerd. His tireless work makes all this possible. He rules with an iron fist…not really…he’s a great boss and even better leader. He can often be found lurking over our shoulders or in his local comic book store. Bryan is an all around nerd, from Star Trek to comic books to collecting action figures. If it's nerd related, he's into it or at least has an opinion on it..

About Rebecca Narkiewicz

A lack of a set bedtime, no cable tv, and a mom with a penchant for scary movie when she was a child led to a grown up Bex still with no set bedtime and a love of the sci-fi/fantasy genre. A mega fan of Neil Gaiman, Supernatural, and all things Whedon. She tends to be the voice of reason, keeps Proffitt up after her bedtime, and play devil's advocate to keep the nerds here from getting too full of themselves. She can also be found at Good Girls Gone Geek with childhood pal Rachel Proffitt. Oh, and she wants you all to know Batman is way cooler than Superman.

About Liz Long

Liz Long has a weather anchor name with a superhero spirit. She is an aspiring writer, an avid TV watcher, blogger, a comic book superhero, and a really big nerd. Don't ever speak negatively of Harrison Ford around her or she'll pour water over your head. She has undying love for Indiana Jones, still talks about Harry Potter like it's not over, and reads way too many paranormal/YA books. She also has an irrational fear of a zombie apocalypse (please don't use that against her or you'll probably lose an appendage).

About Mark Driscoll

When not ranting about the current state of his favorite comics or working on L33t, Mark spends a majority of his time renovating his newly purchased, 120 year old Victorian house. Badly. He is very bad at talking about himself in the third person, as he thinks it make him sound pretentious.

About Sean Perreault

Hailing from the Great White North, Sean spends his most of his days working, but during his time off, he tries to see any movie that is in theatres (Yes that is how they spell Theatre in Canada), sometimes more than once. He is a gaming aficionado and enjoys reading Scifi/Fantasy Fiction/Graphic novels in lieu of sleeping. To keep himself sane, he is working on a few short stories and a novel.

About Dani Lawson

Mild mannered Assistant Professor of Communication by day; geek culture maven, gamer, medieval re-enactor, fanfic author and sci-fi/fantasy freak by night. Who needs sleep, right?! She has an enduring obsession with Spike from 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer', as well as being crazy for 'Firefly', 'Eureka' and the Goblin King. In addition to raising GeekGurl2.0, she has a loving (and infinitely tolerant) hubby who patiently listens to random rantings about the need for 'more fangy vampires' and the fact that 'only the Goblin King should sparkle'. When not torturing students (or her hubby) she can be found blogging at geekgirlmanifesto.blogspot.com/

About Rebecca Veverka

A lifelong Cleveland, Ohio native, Rebecca is the second member of Word of the Nerd that likes to be called Bex. What are the chances? An Anglophile, science and history buff, and avid gamer (both video and tabletop), Bex also spends her free time crafting, illustrating, reading, and getting into amicable arguments with strangers on the internet. She has entirely too much free time. One of her greatest accomplishments is that she's only suffered one minor head injury in her lifetime.

About Ben Erickson

One of Ben's first vivid memories is being sat down in front of the TV by his father when Star Wars came on one night. Little did he know, that was his first step into a larger, geekier universe. When he's not spending way too much time thinking of how to work quotes from the films into his everyday life, he can often be found playing, writing about, or reading about tabletop RPGs, working through his far too large (and still growing) to-read list, or just chilling with his wife on the couch watching whatever they've got queued up on Netflix.

About Brent Kincade

Brent Kincade has often wondered if there was an alternate universe where Aquaman was instead called Waterhombre. He also spends a fair amount of his waking life patiently waiting for friends to mention a Thunderdome so he can roll his eyes and plead, "Can't we just get BEYOND Thunderdome??" (Six times, thus far.) His first comic book was Spidey Super Stories #4 in 1974, his first Star Trek episode was "City On The Edge of Forever" in 1975, his first Doctor Who was "The Visitation" in 1984. Once when he was young, he stashed his vinyl Halloween Spider-Man costume in the neighbor lady's shrubs and was later caught red-handed, crawling into the shrubs to change into costume because he had, "Heard a cry for help". He's a father, an artist, a graphic designer, a cartoonist, and usually pretty handy in a pinch. Brent requests the story of his days be co-written by Harlan Ellison, Steven Moffat and Neil Gaiman, drawn by John Romita, scored by Ben Folds and riffed on by the fine folks at Mystery Science Theater 3000.
