In a rare photo opportunity, the 100-ton, 12-story shuttle Discovery is lifted to the vertical position for raising and attachment to the solid rocket boosters and external fuel tank that will take it into space. The operation from rolling over into the huge Vehicle Assembly Building to attachment takes some 24 hours.
