Our Commitments
We think it's possible to run a successful global business and be successful in our hometowns as well.
For more than 40 years our community involvement has made a difference. We work with our associates and communities to build a better future and provide solutions to their needs.
Leadership in Ethical Business Practices
Our focus on integrity has led OfficeMax to be named as one of 2012's World's Most Ethical Companies by Ethisphere Institute. This honor is based on our code of ethics, sustainable business practices, corporate citizenship, and nominations from senior executives, industry peers, suppliers and customers.
OfficeMax was also honored with Ethisphere Institute's Ethics Inside Certification (EIC) for 2012-2013, as a result of our strong ethics and compliance program, culture of ethics, reputation and leadership, corporate citizenship and responsibility initiatives, and governance systems. OfficeMax is the only company in the office supply industry to receive the EIC designation.

California Transparency in Supply Chain Act
The California Transparency in Supply Chain Act of 2010 requires certain companies to disclose their efforts to eradicate human trafficking and slavery from their supply chains. OfficeMax uses a third party firm to audit, evaluate, and address human trafficking and slavery risks in its imported product supply chain. The company's auditing contractor conducts independent social accountability audits at suppliers' foreign factories, some of which are unannounced. The social accountability audits are performed to the standards of SA8000 and specifically include anti-slavery and human trafficking elements. When OfficeMax's imported product suppliers sign a vendor contract with OfficeMax, they are required by the terms of the contract to agree and certify that the products being supplied were produced in compliance with applicable human trafficking and slavery laws. OfficeMax's Code of Business Conduct and Ethics requires all of its employees to comply with all laws applicable to its operations includes compliance with human trafficking and slavery prohibitions. Violations of the Code's requirements can result in termination. In 2012, OfficeMax will begin implementation of appropriate internal training, aimed at mitigating human trafficking and slavery risks, to those employees with direct responsibility for supply chain management.
