Alabama Appellate Lawyer, Trial Attorney, and Freelance Writer
William L. Pfeifer, Jr. (Bill Pfeifer)

William L. Pfeifer, Jr.,  is an Alabama appellate lawyer  with a statewide appellate law practice handling civil, criminal, and family court appeals. He has an AV Preeminent peer-review rating from Martindale-Hubbell and on Lawyers.com, and has a 10.0 Superb Rating from Avvo.

Mr. Pfeifer has practiced law since 1993, representing individuals and businesses in trials or on appeal in cases all over Alabama. He also served as a staff attorney to the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals, where he gained an inside perspective on how appellate court judges make their decisions. Pfeifer’s experience working for the appellate courts was extremely valuable in the development of his legal writing skills and in building his knowledge of appellate procedure. To learn more about Pfeifer’s appellate law practice and the process of appealing a case in Alabama, see the Appeals page of this site as well as numerous articles in our Blog. While he has an office in Birmingham, the nature of his practice allows him to handle cases appealed from every county in Alabama.

While the focus of Pfeifer’s law practice is now on appellate law, he spent many years as a trial lawyer and still gets involved in trial-level cases to varying degrees to assist with specific legal issues or to help prepare a case for an eventual appeal. In order to be a good trial lawyer, an attorney must understand the best ways to properly argue and preserve legal issues on the record in case there is an appeal. In order to be a good appellate lawyer, an attorney must have a firm grasp of the practical realities of courtroom litigation. Pfeifer applies the knowledge, skill, and experience he has gained in both of these areas of law to every case accepted by his office.

The most important part of an appellate lawyer’s work is legal writing. Appellate law practice revolves around researching and writing complex legal briefs that argue a client’s legal position to the appellate courts. It is not enough for an appellate lawyer to be a legal scholar. In addition to understanding the law and legal procedures, an appellate lawyer must have a devotion to the craft of writing. Attorney William L. Pfeifer, Jr., is not only an appellate attorney and a trial lawyer, but also a successful freelance writer as well. He has written for a variety of publications and websites, has published two books (with a third on the way), and provides editing and consulting services to other writers and lawyers.  To be notified about new articles published by Bill Pfeifer, click here to follow him on Twitter.
