Poetry Writing ContestEvery year, the USF Humanities Institute celebrates the power of the poetic with a month of readings, workshops, and events. Now, for the first time, we invite you to unleash your inner poet, and compete in our Florida 2013 Competition, in part inspired by the 500th anniversary of the naming of “La Florida.” The contest is divided into two categories: High School Poets and USF Poets. We will award first, second, and third place prizes in each category. Additional finalists’ poems will be featured on the NPM@USF Website throughout the month of April, 2013. Winners in each category will receive their awards in a special event featuring distinguished poet Jorie Graham, who will be in residence at USF the first week of April. Read the rules and download the coversheet to submit your original poem. All entries must be received by Feb. 15, 2013.
A Weird Invasion is ComingOne of our most popular events returns: a two-day series of events about science fiction. This year's guests are Ann and Jeff VanderMeer, a husband and wife duo who wrote the book on "weird." Their recently released anthology, The Weird: A Compendium of Strange and Dark Stories and Best American Fantasy, has received critical acclaim and Ann and Jeff are both well respected speculative ficion writers. This year's focus will be on Science Fiction, Gender, and "the Other." View the complete schedule for March 26 - 27.
