With the holidays approaching, the musical cornucopia in Cincinnati gets even fuller. Expect the debut of Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra music director-designate Louis Langrée, a visit to the CSO by percussionist Evelyn Glennie, James Bond at the Cincinnati Pops, pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet at the Constella Festival and Kurt Weill and more at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.

Cincinnati Symphony Orchestrta

Saxophonist and 2012 CSO creative director Branford Marsalis will perform the CSO premiere of
Dutch composer Jacob ter Veldhus' 2002 "Tallahatchie" Concerto for Saxophone and Chamber Orchestra.  Also on the program, to be led by guest conductor Jacques Lacombe, are the "Lieutenant Kije Suite" by Sergei Prokofiev and American composer Samuel Barber's "Night Flight" and Symphony No. 1 in One Movement, Op. 9. "Great Music in a Great Space"

The acclaimed British vocal ensemble
Tenebrae, led by founder/director Nigel Short, performs music by Rachmaninoff, Chesnokov, Tchaikovsky, Pärt, Kedrov, Kalinnikov and Paul Mealor (including Mealor's setting of "Ubi caritas," composed for the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton). The concert opens St. Peter in Chains Cathedral's "Great Music in a Great Space" series for 2012-2013.  Tickets are $38 in advance, $40 at the door.  Students $15 at the door. Percussionist
Evelyn Glennie, whose audience numbered over one billion when she performed last summer at the opening ceremonies of the Olympic Games in London, returns to the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra to perform the Percussion Concerto by Jennifer Higdon.  Also on the program, to be led by guest conductor Peter Oundjian, are Ravel's "Alborada del gracioso," Rimsky-Korsakoff's "Capriccio espagnol" and Tchaikovsky's "Francesca da Rimini."  Tickets begin at $10, available at the door, at the Music Hall box office at (513) 381-3300, or visit www.cincinnatisymphony.org.
