At Scoot, we have a keen interest in fuel prices and don’t really want to be spending more than is necessary, so we always try to refuel at the petrol station that provides the cheapest rates!

One way we do this is to use PetrolPrices.com, a website that allows you to search for the cheapest petrol in your area.

We have found the site extremely useful and use it on a regular basis to keep our fleet of bikes and cars filled, but we know the rising cost of fuel is a concern not just to Scoot, but to all motorists across the UK.

In fact, just last week, consumer organisation Which? found that fears about rising fuel prices have risen to a record 85% - so we thought it would make sense to share some of the cheapest petrol stations in and around Edinburgh with you.

We decided to check the prices of petrol stations within 10 miles of the Scoot office in Hillside, Edinburgh – and the results certainly make for interesting reading.

The lowest price for unleaded petrol is Asda Edinburgh Automat at The Jewel in Brunstane, with unleaded coming in at 131.7p. The highest price is 136.9, giving you a potential saving (per litre) of 5.2p.

The lowest price for diesel is 137.7p at the same Asda store and the highest is 142.9p, also giving you a potential saving (per litre) of 5.2p.

Below, you can see a list of the top 10 cheapest petrol stations within 10 miles of our office.

As you can see, there is a significant difference between the price of fuel in petrol stations in Edinburgh if you are happy to shop around, however those prices don’t even come close to the cheapest petrol stations in the UK.

According to PetrolPrices.com, the cheapest petrol station is Sainsburys, Bishop Auckland – with petrol costing just 127.9p.

We certainly advise finding petrol stations that offer the cheapest rates, but it may not be worth it to go THAT far for cheaper petrol.
