Aloha, and welcome to spacer ,

In 2011, the University of Hawai’i partnered with the National Academies Board on Science, Technology and Economic Policy to convene a major conference to build Hawai’i's innovation strategy. View presentations by keynote speakers and expert panels at that symposium.

This symposium drew together the state’s political, academic and business leadership, along with federal officials and national experts to identify key steps toward meeting the objectives of President M.R.C. Greenwood’s Innovation Council.  A summary of the symposium was published by the National Research Council in 2012.  Get the report

The National Research Council also recently published Research Universities and the Future of America, which presents critically important strategies for ensuring that our nation’s research universities contribute strongly to America’s prosperity, security, and national goals. Widely considered the best in the world, our nation’s research universities today confront significant financial pressures, important advances in technology, a changing demographic landscape, and increased international competition. This report provides a course of action for ensuring our universities continue to produce the knowledge, ideas, and talent the United States needs to be a global leader in the 21st century.

You can download that report here. Or view the video.

Recently, President Greenwood has shared the University of Hawaii’s strategy to build a $1 billion research enterprise with the Hawaii Executive Conference and other community groups. The university plans to drive the growth of the industry by hiring and developing 50 top scientists over the next five to eight years.  We invite you to join us in supporting spacer and in the critically important task of building Hawaii’s research industry.
