Entire new tree – Carpanini Myles Faircloth Wannell tree

An entire new tree has been added for the Carpanini Myles Faircloth Wannell tree. This is a Welsh Italian family with strong connections to Bardi, Italy, South Wales and Toronto, Canada.

As with all my research, this tree is available online here. I has also been added to my Ancestry profile to aid linking.

The Arandora Star

The Cruise Liner

By reason of her exclusive pre-war employment as a cruising liner, the Arandora Star was probably one of the best-known ships in the world. Built by Cammell Laird of Birkenhead and completed in 1927 more or less as a sister ship to the Almeda , Andalucia, Avelona and Avila for the fast passenger and refrigerated cargo service to South America.

The Comune of Bardi

Bardi sits between 600-800 meters high in the Apennine Mountains of North Italy. It is the second largest comune in the Province of Parma with an area of about 190 km², it is relatively sparsely populated and villages are spread out.

Regione: (region) Italy is split into 20 regions:  Abruzzo, Aosta Valley, Apulia, Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Emilia-Romagna, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Lazio, Liguria, Lombardy, Marche, Molise, Piedmont, Sardinia, Sicily, Tuscany, Trentino-Alto Adige, Umbria, Veneto.

Provincia: (province) A subdivision of a region.  The three main functions of provinces are local planning and zoning, provision of local police and fire services and transportation regulation (car registration, maintenance of local roads).

The Italian Connection

The first Italians to settle in Britian came in the 1820s and their numbers grew throughout the cities of England, Scotland and Wales. At the turn of the century many moved to smaller towns and villages, true pioneers, no Italians having been there before.

The industrial revolution that was sweeping Europe was at its peak in the mining valleys of South Wales.
