to protect our communities and the planet. The Club is America's
oldest, largest and most influential grassroots environmental
organization.
The Chickasaw Group of the Sierra Club represents over 1000 members
in Memphis and West Tennessee. We advocate for policies that protect
our natural environment, offer hikes and outdoor recreation for
people of all ages, support environmental candidates for public
office, and provide opportunities for people who want to develop
leadership skills to help their community while enhancing the
environment.

On August 23, 2012, the Chickasaw Group hosted a panel discussion on plans for the Shelby Farms Parkway (aka Kirby Parkway). The plan is called the "Supplemental Final Environmental Impact Statement" (SFEIS). Speakers represented the City of Memphis, the Shelby Farms Park Conservancy, the Sierra Club, the Ground Water Institute at the University of Memphis, and Shelby Place neighborhood (just North of the Park). ATTENTION: IMPORTANT PETITION ANNOUNCEMENT!
The Sierra Club has put a petition online which asks the city, county and state authorities to refrain from approval of the current plan for Shelby Farms Parkway until further studies are done and a better plan has been approved. It is our contention that all reasonable alternatives have NOT been considered. This is required when federal funds are used to build a highway through a public park. So click HERE - goo.gl/l5DMM - to sign the petition and tell your local officials to not build the planned road and instead consider better alternatives."
