Challenge

'Design and develop engaging interactive infographics and data visualisations for Mars Incorporated, both for the 2011 CSR report and for external amplification'

Approach

Each year Mars Incorporated releases a Principles in Action report to share the company's annual progress, ambitions and targets.

Signal | Noise were tasked with creating engaging online tools, infographics and animations to bring the report to life. Presented on Mars.com, Facebook and in print, the content had to work across a range of platforms and relate to both internal and external audiences around the world.

Our role involved assessing the available data and content to create a compelling narrative that communicated the vast amount of information effectively. Using a clean and simple visual style, we created a toolkit of assets for the report, for online content, and for internal and external comms, as well as social media outreach.

Outcome

The report included over 25 static infographics including two full size narrative pieces. To accompany the static graphics we produced four animations which were written, designed and animated in-house.

The website also features five interactive infographics, varying from simple
click-through graphics to more complex data tools. They display in-depth data such as emissions reductions and operations targets.

The graphics are used for internal communications, media outreach and mars.com, and also feature throughout the Mars Facebook and Youtube pages.
