sorry, misread that - the tip was for ClaireH
Hi RickB,
I've not tried these myself yet (planning on doing some tonight!) but I read in another recipe that you need to get the wax off the apples first or the toffee won't stick. The other recipe recommended leaving them in a bowl of warm water or scrubbing under the tap. Might be worth giving that a go!

Hi. Great easy first timers toffee apple receipe this one. Easy to follow and works first time with no practice (even for a dad like me!). I used caster sugar as didnt have the other kind.Just make sure to keep dripping some of the mix in a bowl of cold water to see when its ready. You'll know as it really does get hard. If its not hard then its not ready. If you still struggling to keep the toffee on the apple spin the toffee apple around in the bowl of cold water to help it set quicker.
Thanks for this one, will keep the kiddies happy tomorrow night
Hi there
I tried this recipe with Cox's apples but could not get the toffee to stay on the apples (blanched the apples too, tried putting the toffee on hot and then slightly cooled but no joy) - am I missing something?
Many thanks.
umm yummy!
Just made these for 'Halloween' tommorrow (yes I know it's August, but we are running through the holiday year in a week to keep Summer Holiday boredom at bay), anyway, the toffee apples have turned out great. I have got a sugar thermometer somewhere at the back of the cupboard so I used the jug and cold water method to gauge the heat, the added bonus of this is that I get to eat the toffee as it goes through the soft caramel to firm caramel stages (and it is really, really tasty). By far the best toffee apple recipe that I have come across.
