Noticed The Top Commentators Got Reset

When I set the Top Commentators Plugin to reset every week, I wasn’t sure what day of the week it will reset on. Now I know – Saturday. I just noticed this now because comment spam king, Michael Kwan, wasn’t on the list. *Completely shocked* However, I’m sure he’ll power his way back on somehow.

This is the first day of the weekly reset and I see our number 1 commentator, Alex Becker, has 39 comments already. Considering it’s only 3PM and there’s still nine hours left in the day, that’s pretty amazing. For being the top commentator on day 1, Alex gets a link on this post.

I’m finding that alot of people leave it on monthly and you’ll see 1000+ posts – weekly makes perfect sense.

Stuart March 3, 2007 at 3:41 pm spacer

I think it matters on how active your blog is. Leaving it on monthly(with an inactive blog makes it look more active), with an active blog, you don’t give others much change to make it. John made a great choice.

Nick March 3, 2007 at 3:44 pm spacer

I have mine set to monthly because comments are not that active – other sites I own I do weekly because the level of traffic. To each site – its own settings and preference

Saman Sadeghi March 3, 2007 at 4:12 pm spacer

I still have mine set to monthly!

I noticed that there are a lot more comments here now that John has changed the reset time to weekly.

Ajith March 3, 2007 at 8:17 pm spacer

John always makes great choices, May be Evil are googd at making choices

lyndonmaxewell March 3, 2007 at 8:20 pm spacer

I agree. Depending on how one plays it, it can still make your blog looks pretty active. What do you know? John might have to make the reset daily sooner or later. spacer

Gary Lee March 3, 2007 at 4:15 pm spacer

it looks like I’m on pace to reset it bi-annually . . . hahhaa . . it really does depend on the activity of the site!

Saman Sadeghi March 4, 2007 at 11:28 am spacer

Did it get reset again?!

Stuart March 3, 2007 at 3:27 pm spacer

spacer Wow, if that is a days worth of comments, I’m suprised. But I don’t think it is a days worth.

Stuart March 3, 2007 at 3:28 pm spacer

BTW, it looks like Alex’s blog is down.

Saman Sadeghi March 3, 2007 at 3:35 pm spacer

Man, I’ve having site issues too! I doubt it’s a WordPress 2.1.2 issue …

Stuart March 3, 2007 at 3:41 pm spacer

@Saman,

Your blog is working on my end.

Saman Sadeghi March 3, 2007 at 4:05 pm spacer

Thanks Stuart,

It’s been on and off all day. I keep getting this error:

500 Internal Server Error.

I can still access images and files, but nothing Wordpress related. I have tried downgrading to v2.1 – although 2.1.2 was live all day yesterday…

Saman Sadeghi March 3, 2007 at 10:06 pm spacer

Just an update, mt site has been stable for about an hour. I know you were all very worried. spacer

Tyler March 3, 2007 at 5:14 pm spacer

I noticed his site is down too spacer

As for a 500, is an internal Server error, its a really generic error message that means something oops server side spacer

Saman Sadeghi March 3, 2007 at 10:09 pm spacer

Yeah, tell me about it! And the tech’s weren’t much help either spacer

Michael Kwan March 3, 2007 at 3:47 pm spacer

I didn’t notice any comments by Alex, so I’m thinking that those 39 comments are trackbacks NOT initiated by him. His blog is down (and has been down for some time). In my Google personalized homepage, it once read “Alex Becker’s blog”. It now reads “download fetish video”. It has been like that for a couple of weeks now.

Ajith March 3, 2007 at 8:20 pm spacer

Michael how can I make a track back to your blog?

lyndonmaxewell March 3, 2007 at 8:32 pm spacer

Ajith, below any of Michael’s posts, there is a link entitled “Trackback this Post”. Have a look for it.

Saman Sadeghi March 3, 2007 at 10:11 pm spacer

But, doesn’t it happen automatically when you link to the post? spacer

Michael Kwan March 4, 2007 at 2:04 pm spacer

Yes, near the bottom (just above the comment reply box), you’ll see a trackback link. I have it set up in Wordpress, though, to automatically send a trackback to any URL I link to.

Gareth March 3, 2007 at 3:31 pm spacer

That’s a crazy amount of comments for one day from one person. I think the title of top spammer is starting to become more appropriate and less of a joke.

Stuart March 3, 2007 at 3:32 pm spacer

Speaking of op spammer, Michael Kwan is on the top commentators list.

John Chow March 3, 2007 at 3:39 pm spacer

He didn’t waste any time! I only saw him a few hours ago at our weekly Pho fest.

HMTKSteve March 3, 2007 at 3:42 pm spacer

I did not reset fully, this is my first comment of the day.

Michael Kwan March 3, 2007 at 3:45 pm spacer

Yeah, it didn’t reset fully. While I have been reading and commenting here for the past little bit, I definitely have not put up 37 comments TODAY (as it reads now).

Saman Sadeghi March 3, 2007 at 4:06 pm spacer

Nor have I added 60 today (maybe 50 – take that Steve spacer )

Gary Lee March 3, 2007 at 4:16 pm spacer

seriously Michael . .what’s your secret? do you have a modified IM program you’re using to comment so much? =)
