I thought design and function were related. It is truly astounding that an award might be given to the Boeing 787, a byword for industrial development diaster, vastly over budget, over three years late, currently overweight which will impact on its performance, and of which over 100 have to be heavily modified before they will be close to their offered specification. In time this may prove to be a good design but surely not yet.
What a shame that you have not published photos of the award winners…as someone living overseas who cannot visit the exhibition I find this a great pity. As a museum which supposedly looks to the future you should be increasing your virtual outreach…very disappointed…
Dear Sarah,
The long list announced is this year’s nominees, the winners in each category and the overall winner will be announced on 24 April 2012 at an Awards Dinner at the museum.
Best, Design Museum
