Open invitation to comrades of the international anarchist movement
Contra Info is a translation counter-information network in the wider anarchist/ anti-authoritarian/ libertarian movement, originally based in Greece as an open and self-organized undertaking, aiming at disseminating counter-information, connecting the Greek anti-authoritarian movement with those abroad, and diffusing anarchist discourse throughout society. Hence, we emphasize communication without mediation as a tool in the movements’ hands. At the same time, this project complements and supports the independent counter-information network and similar undertakings abroad.
Contra Info was launched as an attempt to translate and spread the pulse of ongoing social struggles in Greece into as many languages as possible, as well as the international reality of social war into Greek. This was achieved to varying degrees, depending on the dynamics of each language group/blog at times. Individuals and collectivities from various parts of the world have strongly supported the network and given it life and momentum beyond the initial expectations. As the circle of participants in Contra Info widened, the need to overcome its main initial goal was indicated, thus to determine the network’s character based on news’ translation and dissemination from around the world into various languages. Of course, we are more than aware that this suggested new goal is difficult to be realized due to constraints that can refer to coordination regarding this multidisciplinary translation project (from and in various languages) but also due to a current inadequacy of potential as far as planning and execution are concerned.
We continue to believe that an immense political experiment is taking place in Greece on which the State and Capital will rely in order to launch further attacks to society. Nevertheless, we believe that the fires of resistance in the centres and peripheries of the capitalist world continue to grow; respectively, all counter-information means should be strengthened worldwide to meet the needs of local movements, standing antagonistically against the propaganda of the regime’s media that serve the global Power.
By recognizing this responsibility we aim to broaden Contra Info’s thematic and to consequently multiply its potential. The expression of diverse struggles of anarchists around the world without restrictions, sectarianisms or exclusions, is the only way to learn from each other and to interact towards personal and social liberation.
Contra Info network is not to compete existing multilingual projects that act with an anarchist/ anti-authoritarian/ libertarian perspective, but rather to complement active radical and militant counter-information means by offering its multilingual infrastructure for use to the oppressed and the insurgents of the world, giving voice to marginalized social struggles and standing in solidarity with any rebellious person.
We address an open invitation to individuals, collectivities/groups and networks that wish to assist in an informational guerrilla, to accompany Contra Info into shaping its new strategy and to contribute to the complex task of multilingual translation, networking and self-determination across the world.
