I fished the beach for flounder from 7:30 to 9:00 this morning and caught this pompano. Very odd for me while fishing just for beach flounder. Also caught 8 beach flounder for the jetty Boys.

Nice cathch, Andy. the jetty guys don't have to fish, just wait for you to fill their buckets. Your secret spot is still producing.

I've never caught a pompano, I would assume it fights like a jack crevalle. You didn't have to use one of those huge surf rods that are like 10ft long to bomb it out there did you? I only use the hurricane redbone and calico jack for my light tackle inshore fishing so if pompano are a fish that I have to invest in specialized equipment to target, I won't be targeting them lol. Also ik pompano love sandfleas and fiddler crabs and clams, so what bait did you use, could I get away with shrimp?

No, I don't use a 10' rod. I fish for beach flounder. I am not the one to ask about pompano. The bait I used is in the picture with the fish. It really is not that hard, just leave your 10' rod home and fish no more then 15' out from the beach. Thanks!
