Andaman & Nicobar: The Mysterious Bay Islands of India

I am neither a photographer nor a writer. However as a naturalist, I have seen the twin archipelagos of the Andaman and Nicobar islands from one end to the other. I have had the rare opportunity of visiting even the remotest corners of this fascinating group of islands, a camera being my constant companion. Eventually I managed to compile information regarding this interesting part of the country and had enough photographs to help the reader to conceptualise the immense natural wealth of this picturesque union territory of India.

These beautiful islands have recently been hit by a devastating tsunami, triggered by an under-sea earthquake off-coast Indonesia, caused mass destruction across South-east Asia. It also caused extensive physical change and damage to the ecology of these two delicate archipelagos, particularly the Nicobar group of islands killing thousands. Many villages of Nicobar islands portrayed in different photographs of the book, have been affected and some have even been completely wiped out.

The photographs and the original manuscript prepared during the pre-tsunami years 2001 to 2004 for the book have been kept unaltered.
