25th Anniversary Year Results!

From all the comments received, many members enjoyed operating during the 25th Anniversary celebration in 2012. Trying to earn the various awards available for the 25th Anniversary was a real challenge. Hopefully all enjoyed a good time by renewing old friendships as well as making some new CW friends along the way . . .

Whereas logs were received for Versions 1 and 2 Prefix Awards, no "qualifying" logs were received for the Version 3 Award as of the deadline date of Jan 31, 2013. Therefore, no Version 3 Prefix Award Plaques will be issued.

Instead . . .

"Outstanding Achievement Plaques" will be issued to the Top Ten submitted logs as shown below:

Dr. Ian Jones - G4MLW             Darren McDonald - G0OTT
Russ Halbert - K0LUW             Milan Pavel - OK1KW
Ray Myers - WB0PYF             Stan Reas - K4UK
Peter Rosamond - G4LHI             Alan Schriver - KA5VZG
Rocky Cookus - AE7US             Erkki Simila - OH7QR

Congratulations to All Recipients!

Plaques will be mailed out sometime near the end of February or the first week in March.

What is FISTS?

FISTS is a well established and recognized CW (Morse Code) organization in the world of amateur radio. Founded in 1987 by Geo Longden, G3ZQS, it now has a world-wide membership in the thousands and growing daily.

What FISTS wants to accomplish.

       1. To further the use of CW on the amateur bands.
2. To encourage newcomers to the CW mode.
       3. To engender friendship within the membership.

How FISTS got its name, from our late founder, Geo G3ZQS (Silent Key).

"I used to be a member of TOPS before it went out. Quote on their banner was "Where FISTS Make Friends". A "FIST", as you know, is nothing more than a CW ops' reference to another ops' keying characteristic. Phil (TOPS founder/sec) was delighted when I told him of the connection though he was later to follow his XYL and his beloved dog, but I will never forget the enthusiasm which came back from his old vibro. 73 de Geo"

There is only one requirement to join FISTS:

A love of Morse code and a concern for its perpetuation.

The K7QO Code Course and K7QO Upgrade Project

Thanks to K7QO's generosity, FISTS has the distribution rights to the famous K7QO Code Course (Farnsworth method) on CD in mp3 format. When you complete the program by practicing two or three times a day for 10 minutes each session, you will soon be on the air at a comfortable conversational speed.
spacer Because of license restructuring, tens of thousands of Novice, Tech+, and Techs now have privileges in the CW bands. FISTS CW Club encourages these hams to use their privileges and upgrade from the 5 wpm they learned to obtain these licenses. Chuck Adams, K7QO, recorded a General class exam written question pool on CD in Morse code, starting out slowly and working up to about 30 wpm.

The Upgrade Training CD is the General Exam questions and answers sent in Morse code. Since the K7QO Upgrade Training Project CD starts at a speed of about 10 wpm and is plain text, it is not for beginners. However, it is excellent practice for those who know the code and want to upgrade their skills. It is also a good refresher course in electronics for those who have been licensed a while. You may be surprised at how much of the General class information you have forgotten!

The Code Course CD starts out assuming the person is a total beginner and sends repetitive letters, numbers and words.

Both disks are mp3 files, and will not play in a regular CD player. You need a CD-sized mp3 player (available in stores for under $20) or a computer. They will play in most newer car CD players.

To obtain your copy of the Upgrade Training Project CD or the Code Course CD, visit the FISTS Store page for details!.
