Irvic D'Olivier

Irvic D'Olivier is a radio art producer and curator. He also works as a sound engineer on art-house films.

As a leading member of l’Atelier de Création Sonore Radiophonique he organised the Radiophonic festivals in 2003 and 2007. He’s the founder of SilenceRadio.org and has been coordinating the project since April 1, 2005 in Brussels.

As a teenager he was less interested in making noise with a guitar than recording the band on 4-tracks. When he studied visual arts, he made several sound installations with headphones and microphones and this experience drove him to study sound production, a few months in a cinema school then trained on the job. At that time he thought he would come back later to contemporary art with technical abilities but that never happened. However his plastic creativity can be perceived through achievements like Silence Radio.

According to Irvic, sound is something fascinating, mysterious, that will always show resistance. Radio is intimate and demanding. This is what makes him going on. He lives his life constantly surrounded by the sound issue. When he's in studio production for the radio, he's also careful to a film director who tells him of his next film. When he's on a shooting somewhere in the world, he likes to take headphones off and enjoy a new and unknown acoustic environment. He needs to mix these experiences, so as to question and reinvent his practice all the time.
