Find out as Bukuru and members of Snarky Puppy put on a series of performances open to the public!

Performances open to the public include:
• December 13th at 6:00p.m. – Roanoke Main Library
• December 13th at 7:00p.m. – Kirk Avenue Music Hall, Music Lab Winter Concert
• December 14th at 5:00p.m. – Jefferson Center’s Music Lab

The Bukuru/Snarky Puppy artist residency at Jefferson Center focuses on the creation of a collaborative recording, but more importantly it encourages community dialogue on the arts and how the collaborative musical process impacts community. Additionally the residency will guide young, local musicians through a series of workshops held inside area schools and showcases the power of collaborative arts through a series of public performances highlighting the power of music bringing two cultures together into one seamless musical language.

Additional partners involved in the Bukuru/Snarky Puppy Project are the Chamber Music America Residency Partnership Program, Foundation Roanoke Valley, Roanoke Public Libraries, Roanoke Refugee and Immigration Services, Roanoke City Public Schools, Community High School and The Montgomery County and Floyd County Regional Library at Meadowbrook Center.

This residency allows a larger public to experience the creativity that goes into the collaborative process that is song building. Members of Snarky Puppy, Bukuru, Music Lab staff and the project’s community partners will engage local musicians in conversations about composition, arranging, and performance, as well as address the influence that music from Bukuru's home country of Burundi and Tanzania has had on American jazz.
