band history:

We had both been playing in acoustic / reggae bands for a while and wanted a musical change and to not have to lug gear to gigs. After visiting Berlin, we were terrifically inspired and came back to Australia to start an electro performance band - which (after a few drunken nights) became Shiny Shiny.

what’s your message?

We wanted Shiny to be queer, proud, colourful, to promote women generally and women in technology in a positive and fun light.

do you play shows and how do they look like?

Our shows are a energetic mix of music, costume changes, live visuals, stage antics and audience interaction

what was the craziest show you’ve ever played ?

Probably our Debut show in Lismore. Melania wanted to play her electric guitar with an electric drill and a cocktail swizzle stick, but Patty chose the wrong, un-super-glued swizzle stick, and so when the drill was fired, the swizzle stick shot out and smashed the black lights above stage, raining black light glass all over us.. Then she climbed a ladder and cut her debutante dress off with a chainsaw..

what was the worst and why?

We played one show where the dude running the venue was just an idiot, and he came onstage and turned our amps down, and told us he didn't want to listen to our shit lesbian music.. we told him where to go and left, with our friends and fans, and went out to a nightclub and danced and washed the bad taste away with the Jagermeister, and vowed to continue doing what we are doing.. seeing as it gets such a strong response!!

what are your future plans?

To spend some time in San Fran, and then head back to Berlin, where we are so inspired, and where it feels super to be part of such a progressive and experimental society and music scene. We also have a new project we are working on to take with us, it's called "the ironing maidens", and it's a multimedia experimental music and visuals project that is politically based around women's access to technology; like if you put women in the kitchen, here is what happens! The project uses common household items, like irons, that we hack and turn into instruments and triggers, to make music with. It's going to be ironing baskets full of fun!

are you going for the big deal or are you more the d.i.y. type?

We are DIY by nature, and we love collaborating with other artists on experimental, political, cutting edge projects, and I don't think we'd have that kind of freedom on a regular record deal. Saying that we would never say no to a big deal of cash turning up so we could really go to town with our idea's, and involve more people.
