This weekend, September 22 and 23, includes a one-of-a-kind event, Tan Dun: Martial Arts Trilogy. Composer Tan Dun conducts the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra in performances of his music for the three films Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Hero and The Banquet. The concerts includes projections from the three films.
This isn't the first time I've written about martial arts in a dance context but the added twist is the direction of Tan Dun. As seen in the above photos, he is clearly a movement artist as well.

Near Festival's end, September 28 and 29, the Aditi Mangaldas Dance Company will present two works, Uncharted Seas and Timeless:
"Uncharted Seas takes you to the heart of classical Kathak. Dancers weave in and out of the shadows with grace, poise and a stunning sense of rhythm. The search for the intangible, for God, truth, beauty, love and freedom, is at its essence. Dressed in traditional costumes, the sounds of the ghunghroo (ankle bells) meld with the live music, creating a distinct percussive beat that adds a unique flavour to every performance."

"Timeless moves furthest from the classical Kathak roots of the company. Entrancing, distinctive and exhilarating, Timeless utilises a totally new contemporary movement vocabulary and Mangaldas’ choreography draws you in to a compelling and many textured abstract world."

The OzAsia Festival closes September 30 in what has become a community gathering in Adelaide, the Moon Lantern Festival. It's a free event for the whole family:
"Enjoy workshops, food and market stalls and diverse performances on the main stage by local Asian community groups followed by a stunning Moon Lantern Parade at dusk and a spectacular fireworks finale."
Sounds like a great time!
