Snap-of-the-Day: Worldview

This is my window on the world. Light snow in Cambridge today. Not many people moving around out there. March is about endurance in this part of the country. We’ve endured the coldest, darkest part of the year, though spring is yet to come. So we watch, and wait.

Snap-of-the-Day: Autographed copies can be yours!

Two snaps for today. We had a wonderful event this past Sunday with authors Margaret Roach and Katrina Kenison. Margaret’s talk even inspired this reluctant gardener to pick up some seed packets at the Wayside Country Store the other day. We have a few signed copies of Katrina and Margaret’s books left, so if you missed the event, and still want a book, let us know. We have signed copies of their paperbacks, too.

Water, Sky & Time contains 145 images of paintings created by Adriano in the last 30 years. It is a retrospective of his artistic career over the last 30 years. The book is divided in three categories: waterscapes, still life, and other subjects. Many of the waterscapes portray local rivers such as the Battenkill with its covered bridges, the Adirondacks, and the Hudson River. Country scenes typical of the area are also at the center of his waterscapes as well as wildlife and fishing scenes of the Northeast. His still lifes are dramatic renditions of various subjects, from angling to hunting, from golf to western subjects. They are suffused with a nostalgic patina reminiscent of days gone by. In the other subjects section, are samples of images that are other than waterscapes and still life, such as golf, equine, and landscapes.

spacer “What is truly art, critics tell us, is something that makes a statement from the artist’s heart to our own. As we gaze into Adriano’s landscapes, it is obvious that he sees beauty all around him. With delicate brushstrokes and a remarkable sense of light and color, he describes nature’s wonders in a way that makes us appreciate both their uniqueness and their beauty.”

–Chuck Weschler, publisher and editor of Sporting Classics, in his foreword to Water, Sky & Time

“Artists – real artists, serious artists, memorable artists – work not in oils and watercolors, clay and stone, verbs and nouns and harmonic vibrations from reeds and strings, but in emotions. Artists paint and sculpt, write and sing, finger the necks of a Stradivarius or a Stratocaster using passions so visceral our ancestors knew them only as Magic. And Magic is exactly what I feel when looking into an Adriano Manocchia painting. ”

–James R. Babb, editor of Gray’s Sporting Journal, in his introduction to Water, Sky & Time

spacer Born in New York in 1951, Adriano Manocchia received his Bachelors degree from Pace University in New York City. After graduating, he spent twelve years as a photojournalist traveling the world to cover news events.

In 1984, Adriano turned his attention to fine art, adopting the painting techniques of the Old Masters and quickly received the attention of critics worldwide. A number of awards and special projects marked his recognition in the traditional art field as a foremost contemporary artist. Adriano’s work is in major private collections as well as prestigious galleries such as The Sportsman’s Gallery in Beaver Creek, CO, Trailside Galleries in Jackson, WY and Scottsdale, AZ, and Laura Gould Fine Art Gallery in Vineyard Heaven, MA. For a number of years he also enjoyed his role as art and photography professor at Long Island University.

Adriano currently resides in Cambridge, New York, where he and his family have found a most congenial environment, leaving the hectic city life behind, in a picturesque community rich in art history. Now Adriano has only to look outside his studio window or along the private stretch of rivers on his property to find inspiration for his art.
