New version of PerfMonitor to come

posted by Franck Delattre - February 21, 2013

spacer PerfMonitor, the performance monitoring tool developped by CPUID, required a serious update. We decided to rewrite the program completely, starting with the interface. The new interface of PerfMonitor2 is largely inspired by the Windows task manager, and consists in large graphs with a smooth scrolling.

spacer

In addition to report performance related data, the new PerfMonitor2 adds monitoring data like temperatures, powers, and mixes them to report data like performance per watt.

For its release, the program will support latest x86 processors generations : Intel Nehalem, Westmere, Clarkdale, Sandy Bridge, Ivy Bridge, Haswell, Clover View, CedarView, and AMD Bulldozer, Vishera, Trinity, Richland.

Please check the PerfMonitor page in the next weeks to discover this new version !

CPU-Z 1.63

posted by Franck Delattre - February 08, 2013

spacer CPU-Z 1.63 is out. Whereas the CPU-Z dialog tend to become smaller and smaller, that version is a little bit higher than the previous ones, because of the instructions sets control that is now on two lines. On latest CPUs, the two lines are almost filled, already !
Besides of that small change, the news are as following :

- Intel Pentium & Celeron "Ivy Bridge" CPUs.
- AMD Athlon X4 750K.
- FMA3 & 4 instructions sets.
- Support for systems with more than 64 CPUs.
- Report TDP in validation pages.

Please note that the customized version will follow, with a small delay due to that slight change in the dialog size.

Back in 2000

posted by Franck Delattre - December 20, 2012

spacer In 12 years, 62 versions of CPU-Z were released, around one every two months (with some irregularities, I admit). That's the opportunity to see how the program evolved, and what's better for that to see what CPU-Z looked like at the beginning of its career. That screenshot shows CPU-Z 1.03, released in august 2000.

spacer

That version ran on Windows 95, 98, NT and 2000, and supported the latest Pentium 3 Coppermine, as well as the first Athlon processors.
I wonder what CPU-Z will look like in 12 years from now.

CPU-Z 1.61 : bugs !

posted by Franck Delattre - July 21, 2012

spacer Some of you may have noticed that the latest version of CPU-Z (1.61) was suffering lot of bugs, especially in clocks report (CPU speed, BCLK and consequently memory clock). That deserves some explanation.

CPU-Z is using a very handy timer named "APIC timer" for clocks computation. Unfortunately for us, Windows 8 does use that timer as well, and the simultaneous use of that timer by an application causes big troubles (system crash). Microsoft declared that this timer is a not a shareable resource, so we have no other choice than to stop using that timer.

Version 1.60 is the last that use that timer, and version 1.61 is the 1st version that does not use the APIC timer anymore, and as you may have noticed, the alternate methods are not working very well yet. We updated to 1.61.1 and 1.61.2 to fix several issues. Today, we released 1.61.3, that does still add several fixes. We hope to be close to the complete solution of that problem, and to be able to provide a CPU-Z as good as it used to be.

Version 1.61.3 is out. In case of problem, please do not hesitate to contact us by email at cpuz@cpuid.com. Please save a TXT report and attach it to your email.
We thank you for your help and your patience.
