spacer Films based on Half-Life and Portal are in the works, according to JJ Abrams.

Speaking to Polygon, Mr. Abrams said that films based on the two games are in the early stages and he’s “personally interested” in bringing these game universes to the silver screen.

“It’s as real as anything in Hollywood ever gets,” Mr. Abrams said at the DICE keynote. “Which is that we are really talking to Valve, we are going to be bringing on a writer, we have a lot of very interesting ideas.”

“A  Portal and Half-Life movie are things I want to see,” Mr. Abrams said. “We’re also aware of the cautionary tales of movies that became games and vice versa. Our goal here to is to treat the world Valve has created in both these properties like anyone would a book or some great story that comes from a pitch or original script — just to treat it with the respect they treat their games and their players with.”

Valve big boss Gabe Newell, who shared the stage with Mr. Abrams at DICE, said that Valve had previously turned down many pitches for a Half-Life movie because he wasn’t impressed with the scripts presented.

“And their stories were just so bad,” Mr. Newell said. “I mean, brutally, the worst. Not understanding what made the game a good game, or what made the property an interesting thing for people to be a fan of.”

Will Gordon and Chell be as silent in the movie as they are in the games? You better believe it! Gabe N is all about staying true to the lore, so I’m sure he’ll make sure those two playable main characters say nothing on screen.

    Please God, no.

No matter what they do with this it is going to ruin the story of the games. the only exception being if they create an entirely new story/set of characters that just happen to exist in that world.Even then it is going to be a travesty.
