Doug Kaye is a social entrepreneur and technologist working to change the world in the non-profit online sector. Profiled in The New Influencers, Doug was also named as a Trendsetter for the Always On/Technorati Open Media 100 in 2005.

The Conversations Network

Doug is the founder and Executive Director of The Conversations Network, a 501(c)(3) non-profit online publisher of audio and video recordings of worldwide spoken-word events. The Conversations Network includes curated channels such as Social Innovation Conversations and grassroots production through the all-volunteer PodCorps.org.

SpokenWord.org

The Conversations Network's latest project is SpokenWord.org, an open directory for finding and sharing audio and video recordings of spoken-word programs.

IT Conversations

In 2003, more than a year before the word podcast appeared, Doug created IT Conversations, now the longest running podcasting network with over 2,000 programs published or in production. IT Conversations was named to the Best of the Web list by Business Week. Doug was named the first Podcasting Person of the Year in 2005.

Doug's first book is universally acclaimed as the customer Bible for the web-hosting industry.

Résumé

Prior to founding The Conversations Network, Doug was a consultant, author, and lecturer, based in northern California and working worldwide. Drawing upon nearly three decades of experience as a CEO and CTO, he spent most of his time translating between the languages of business and technology. He was the CTO/VP Engineering of four dot-com startups: Organic Online, NextMonet.com, GoodCompany.com (online dating service) and CoSite (web hosting).

Doug founded and served as CEO of Rational Data Systems from 1978 through 1996, during which time RDS was a leading developer of compilers, protocol stacks and networking products for OEMs such as Novell, Data General, Hewlett-Packard, IBM and Xerox.

In his previous lifetimes, Doug was a recording engineer, motion-picture sound editor and filmmaker. He received a Bachelor's degree in directing and lighting design from the University of California at Berkeley and studied at the Graduate Institute of Film and Television at New York University.
