Flash Decompiler Trillix

Posted by: chris In: General

A while ago Eltima Software sent me a copy of Flash Decompiler Trillix for the Mac platform. I was so impressed with this application that I also featured it in the latest edition of How to Cheat in Adobe Flash CS5. That said, I recently had an old SWF file but had lost the source FLA. I ran searches on every hard drive I own but came up empty. To rebuild the source file from the ground up would have been a lot of work and I simply did not have the time. One quick solution would be to import the SWF back into Flash but that will place all animation on a single layer as all keyframes. All tween data will be lost. Importing the SWF also excludes layer information, sounds and ActionScript.

Occasionally importing just the SWF is not enough – you need to get back everything; layers, sounds, ActionScript etc…

I’ll admit, I was skeptical that Flash Decompiler Trillix would actually work as advertised. Flash files can be quite complex given the varied amount of data any file can contain. The SWF is essentially the flattened and compressed version of the source file, how could all of its contents be extracted and put back together again as they were in the FLA file? That would be like getting the contents of an egg back into its shell after having made the omelette.

Flash Decompiler Trillix does everything it says it can and with just a couple of clicks with the mouse.

Recently I had lost a FLA file but found the SWF that was exported from it. With Trillix software, I was able to quickly convert the SWF back to a FLA again and keep working. Trillix software has become one of my most valuable tools in my arsenal.

So I’ve been using the latest Intuos 4 tablet from Wacom and if you are not already taking advantage of its ExpressKeys and Touch Ring integration with Photoshop and other design applications, what are you waiting for? Check out this video from Joe Sliger, Wacom Application Specialist. The Intuos 4 is Wacom’s best tablet to date and it has increased my work flow significantly.

The Blackberry Playbook

Posted by: chris In: General

I’m super excited about this bit of technology mambo-jambo mainly because it does everything the iPad does plus you get the full experience of the web. If you are like me then you know this must mean support for the wee-little browser plugin we love so much: The Adobe Flash Player. Straight from the Playbook’s spec sheet:

Web without limits

  • Games, media, apps and everything the real Internet offers
  • Full Adobe® Flash® 10.1 enabled
  • Built-in support for HTML 5
  • No-compromise rendering of text, graphics and video

Yup! You read that correctly! Flash 10.1 people! Anyone waiting for the 2nd generation iPad may have to consider the Blackberry Playbook instead. I’m supposed to have one shipped to me this month as a perk of being an Adobe Max speaker last fall. Nothing has arrived on my doorstep yet but then again it could be under 5 feet of snow at this point.

Keyframer forums…

Posted by: chris In: General

I’ve been noticing a steady drop in forum activity the last year or so. Recently I have been noticing some spam popping up as well. My forum software is out of date which means upgrading my account and performing some serious maintenance or shutting down the forums completely. If there’s little or no interest then perhaps it is best. It’s difficult maintaining a forum as one person and I’m afraid I simply don’t have the luxury of time to keep up with it.
I’ll keep an eye on it for a little while longer but if activity continues to decrease as spam increases, then I may wave the white flag and hold a quiet termination ceremony for yet another aging forum in need of being taken out offline.

About

Chris Georgenes (jor-JEE-ness), started life like most humans, covered in placenta and with minimal motor skills. It was not long before he learned how to use both hands and feet as a groove-oriented drummer in a variety of rock bands. Upon standing fully erect, Chris attended a fine art school and received his B.F.A. Years later someone invented the Internet and then another person invented Flash. Riding on the coat tails of these two individuals, Chris was able to carve a unique niche for himself using both tools. His self-taught animation experiments were the stepping stones of what has become a regular source of income.
