This year I launched a new series at Stackpole Books, aptly titled the Stackpole Military Photo Series. (This is what I do when I’m not writing, running, learning to cook, and wondering what a social life is). Here are a few of the titles including my first nonfiction book which will publish next year. Elves, muskets, panzers…I do it all
I suspect that whomever you voted for (if you happen to be American and eligible to vote) you share my joy and relief that the long national nightmare of a seemingly endless campaign is over. It’s my sincerest hope that reasonable politicians can now actually work together to accomplish things. I know, a long shot, but I am a dreamer.
In writing news, I will be handing in the manuscript for my next novel to my editor this month. I’m enjoying this book immensely. As much as I loved writing the Iron Elves, it’s refreshing to create an entirely new world, new characters, and push myself as a writer to try new things. It’s more work in the sense that you have to learn the new characters and the world they inhabit, but I find that part exhilarating.
I won’t give out a timetable yet, but check back once in a while because teaser material will begin to appear.
There’s been some interest expressed in buying a set of the leather-bound Iron Elves. I met with the book binder this morning to discuss that possibility with him. As I mentioned, these are all individually handcrafted and simply gorgeous. The good news is that we can do more sets. I don’t have a time estimate yet, but will get one. Each set will be signed and personalized. In fact, because these
But first, a word from our sponsor, me I really appreciate all the emails checking in to see how I was doing after Hurricane Sandy. I actually came through unscathed. My neighborhood suffered some fallen trees and assorted other minor damage, but that’s it. No flooding and no fires. We never even lost power. So I feel very fortunate in that regard. Honestly, the biggest travail I’ve dealt with is there were no muffins in the diner this morning because the bakery delivery truck couldn’t make it into the city.
And so, the winner of the leather-bound set. As with all my giveaways, I print out everyone’s name on paper, cut them up, put them in a hat, and draw. Not exactly high tech, but it works.
Congratulations to Holly Martin of the USA!
Cheers,
Chris
Mother nature is going a bit overboard in providing a scary background for The Walking Dead tonight. I don’t feel particularly at risk, certainly not when compared to the people living right out on the coast. I’m just a few blocks from Central Park so I don’t have to worry about flooding. I think my biggest concern will be losing power which would mean not being able to watch the show! But all kidding aside, I hope everyone who is in the path of Sandy is taking the proper precautions.
Be smart, stay safe, and if you can, watch the zombie apocalypse with a loved on curled up on the couch beside you. In lieu of that, do what I do, and make yourself a hot chocolate and a toasted crumpet with butter and cherry jam.
Have I told you lately how much I lo- er, like you Seriously, the emails and support I get from fans all over the globe is just spectacular. Writing can be a very isolating profession/obsession, so knowing you’re out there enjoying the adventures of the Iron Elves really means a lot to me. And so, I’d like to say thanks.
You may have noticed the secret tab on the site and wondered just what the heck was discovered in the Lost Library of Kaman Rahl. Well, turns out it was another leather-bound set of the Iron Elves series! These books have been hand-crafted by a skilled artisan steeped in the ancient wisdom of putting leather on, um, well, books They are gorgeous. Seriously, they are stunning. And they are going to go to one lucky fan. (Details below the photo)
All you have to do to enter is enter. OK, slightly more involved than that, but not by much. First, this is open to anyone anywhere in the world. You can enter here by replying to this post, or on my www.facebook.com/pages/Chris-Evans-Iron-Elves/435233515470?ref=hl FaceBook page, or even my Twitter account. I am not going to make you jump through hoops, just your name and country of origin so that when the drawing is held we’ll know who won.
I’ll hold the drawing at the end of the month. Of course, if there’s a lot of interest I may have to go back into the library and see what else is hidden on the shelves.
Cheers!
Chris
I want to thank everyone who donated and promoted my participation in this event. It’s a very worthy cause and I suspect everyone reading this knows someone who has been affected by cancer. Every little bit helps. The run itself was fantastic. It was a beautiful clear fall day in Central Park and there was a huge crowd. I ran as part of the Carleton University New York City alumni team (one of the two universities I attended in Canada).
And as promised, I am giving away a leather-bound set of the Iron Elves series. First, here’s what the set looks like:
And the winner is………………Sean Dunnage.
Congratulations, Sean. And again, thank you everyone who donated to such a good cause. I truly appreciate it!
You may know that I am a runner. Not super fast, but I try. What you probably don’t know is that I have lost several family members to cancer. In that, I am certain I am not alone. I won’t be the one who finds the cure for cancer, but hopefully I can help those who will.
I’ve signed up to run in the Terry Fox for Cancer Research event to be held in New York City, Saturday, October 13. I’m asking all my fans, friends, and family to help me raise some money. Everyone who donates or helps publicize the event will be eligible to win. As a way to say thanks for your support, I have one complete set of the series – A Darkness Forged in Fire, The Light of Burning Shadows, and Ashes of a Black Frost, all professionally leather-bound, to give away. Naturally, they’ll be signed and personalized. Open to fans around the world.

To catch everyone up, I’m working on my next book which is currently titled The Tree Line. I’ll be handing it in to my editor this fall for publication in the summer of 2013. The mass market edition of Ashes of a Black Frost is out in the UK and due out in North America late September. I don’t know the dates for the other territories, but I believe the Czech translation of Darkness will be coming soon. I know the Russian one is done and I think in stores.
I recently spent a week and a half in France and still dream of moules et frites and croissants with Nutella…not together mind you. I was the historian for a group of high school history teachers and talked about what happened at various battlefields in the Somme and Normandy. It was fantastic. I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve been to Normandy now, but someday I think I’m going to buy a little cottage in one of the villages and make it my summer place. Oh, and I’m including one of my hero shots. Seriously, I need to get me one of these!
My parents recently sold their home in Canada and are now living the carefree life of gypsies, albeit with a huge RV in tow and a home in Florida for the winter. When they’re not out gallivanting (love that word!) they pop into bookstores to do a little PR work for yours truly. Today they were in Owen Sound, Ontario and stopped in at the Coles bookstore. We lived there when we were kids so there’s a connection. The thing I liked best about Owen Sound, and still do, is that it’s the birthplace of Billy Bishop, Canada’s highest scoring fighter ace. Anyway, my folks got a chance to chat with Angela and Jan of Coles and I wanted to thank them for welcoming my parents and taking the time to talk. It means a lot and I appreciate, and so do my parents. It might sound hokey to some, but those few minutes of interest have a lasting impact.
By the way, did I mention the title of my new book? It’s called The Tree Line. It’s a different approach than my previous titles, but then this fantasy is different from the Iron Elves. The title has several meanings, but the one tha
