Putting the People’s Business First

The debate in Concord the past two years has been dominated by those pushing an ideological agenda that is not supported by the majority of New Hampshire residents. The dialogue has been harsh, the work product has been polarizing, and the elected officials at times have been unruly. The time has come to restore sanity and moderation to state government and put the people’s business back on the top of the agenda. As the councilor for District 4, I will:

Say Yes to Economic Investment

I am a strong supporter of maintaining and modernizing our public infrastructure including expediting the widening of I-93 from Salem to Manchester and studying the feasibility of bringing rail service back to southern New Hampshire. The Council voted in March to refuse federal funds for an important study of extending passenger rail service from metro Boston northward through Nashua, Manchester, and Concord. The project, strongly supported by the business community, could give the region a significant boost in economic activity and quality of life. But the Council turned down the federal funds and the study because councilors are politically opposed to the project. We cannot let that vote stand.

Say Yes to Healthy Communities

Access to quality health services is a critical need, yet a majority of councilors—motivated by an extreme social agenda—blocked important funding for Planned Parenthood health centers in 2011. These funds provided cancer screenings, birth control, and preventative care, and without them the health of thousands of women was senselessly jeopardized. As a member of the Council, I will never put my personal politics ahead of the health and well-being of our communities.

Say Yes to Pragmatic State Government

While Governor Lynch is not running for another term in November, he has set an enduring example of pragmatic, people-oriented public service. Above all, I hope to help carry on this tradition and be a consensus-builder on the Council. I pledge to support only well-qualified, sensible nominees to the judiciary and state government posts. I pledge to use my business and government experience to scrutinize all contracts and ensure taxpayers’ money is spent wisely. And I pledge to work with Republicans, independents, and Democrats in a common sense fashion to address our state’s needs, just as Governor Lynch has done so well for eight years.
