The Harnish Law Library understands that as you write your briefs you may have questions about formatting.  To assist you, we have published a LawGuide called Formatting Your Brief: Help With Frequently Asked Microsoft Word Questions, which includes PC- and Mac-based instructions on tasks such as creating a table of authorities or removing personal data from your document.  We have also prepared Quick Guides on preparing tables of authorities, which are available for download from the LawGuide.

Bloomberg Law Now Available to Pepperdine Law Students

The Harnish Law Library is pleased to announce our acquisition of Bloomberg Law, an integrated online legal research platform now available to Pepperdine Law students, faculty, and staff. Along with state and federal primary and secondary legal materials, Bloomberg provides access to extensive business & financial news and information. Another notable feature is the ability to access federal dockets as an alternative to PACER, as well as many state and even some international dockets. Registered students have free summer use of Bloomberg no matter where you will be working.

To log into Bloomberg, you must first activate your account. Visit www.bloomberglaw.com.lib.pepperdine.edu/activate and fill in all of the fields, then click Submit. (You do not need an activation code.) You will shortly receive an email with a temporary password, and can begin researching right away by signing in at www.bloomberglaw.com. If you have any questions, please contact Bloomberg 24/7customer support at 888-560-BLAW (2529).

Digital Commons Law Network Offers Open-Access Law Review Articles

BE Press Digital Commons, a web-based institutional repository for academic scholarship, recently introduced the Digital Commons Law Network. This site culls together PDFs of over 10,000 law review articles from over 160 law schools, including Pepperdine, that are hosted on Digital Commons. The articles are entirely open-access – meaning that they are free to you! Users can browse articles by sub-disciplines ranging from Constitutional Law to Science and Technology, or by the popularity of particular articles or authors (based on a month’s downloads).

The Law Library has lots of books, but it also has plenty more to offer.
Check out this list of cool things you can check out or use:

Smart Bar:
Loaner Laptops: Available for 24 hour check-out (you must leave your driver’s license and sign a release form!).
Fax Machine: Free sending and receiving! Place your documents face down, dial 9-1-area code and number. The fax number is 310-506-4330.
Cable Kits: Hook up your laptop to the screens in the study rooms.
Color Printing: Color printing is $0.50 a page. See a student worker for assistance.
Resumé Printing: Bring the paper and we will print it for you.

Public Services Desk:
Headphones: Listen to your music or podcast while in the library!
DVDS: We have a huge collection of movies and TV series. If you do not see the one you want, please let us know! We love suggestions.
Phone/Laptop Charger: There is a large selection of Mac and PC chargers. We even have phone chargers!

The Law Library also offers free tea and coffee during business hours! Just bring your own mug or purchase a Law Library mug for $5 at the Public Services Desk.

ABA Journal Releases 6th Annual Blawg 100

The ABA Journal has just released its 6th Annual Blawg 100, a compilation of the top law blogs (or “blawgs”) for 2012. Blogs in a number of subject categories, from Legal Research/Writing and Careers/Law Schools to Trial Practice and For Fun, are featured. New this year is the inaugural “Blawg 100 Hall of Fame”, listing perennial favorite law blogs. Users can browse the listing and vote for their favorite blog on the ABA Journal website through Dec. 21.

Researching Israeli Law

The law library recently subscribed to HeinOnline’s Israel Law Reports Library (Pepperdine Wavenet user credentials required for access). This library is a wonderful resource for students who want to find Israeli case law and legal secondary sources for their research projects, but who do not read Hebrew.

HeinOnline’s Israel Law Reports Library

This library has two components: the Israel Law Reports (1946-2006) and the Israel Law Review (1996-2010).
