The Design
The design of this site has been an on again off again affair as I flitted between flights of fancy that bordered on the icarian and a desire to strip away to purer forms. Some elements which may be of interest:
- The magnificent illustration you see perched atop each page was created by none other than Mr. Kevin Cornell of Bearskinrug.co.uk
- I am making use of both Georgia & Clarendon
- Darted through the site are icons created by Mr. Dan Cederholm and available to you through iconshoppe.com (chameleon mini are the ones you’re after).
The Mechanics
Whilst not very adept in the genre of ‘the code’, I shall endevour to highlight some of the geekier aspects of this virtual presence.
- The CMS employed is Expression Engine.
- The Hosting is provided by the good people of Media Temple
- Text replacement via Cufón
- The content found within the ‘Out There’ section is simply my Pinboard feed being parsed which keeps the updating of that content quick and simple.
- The wizadry found within the ‘Victrola’ section requires greater detail than I wish to get into here. I’ll write about it further elsewhere.
With Thanks To...
Some very fine chaps who helped with the bringing to life of this site. Their assistance was most appreciated.
- Kevin not only for his illustrative genius but for his martini recipe.
- Foo for giving it all the ol’ once over more than once.
- Alex for his patience, good nature and the loan of his enourmous brain.
Contact
It’s a pleasure to hear from good looking, erudite persons such as yourself. Feel free to drop me the proverbial at biggestapple AT gmail DOT com. I know working that out is a bore but only marginally as tedious as sifting through spam.
