The Judith Project

The Judith Project: Expanding the Boundaries of Disciplinarity Through Collaborative Scholarly Practice is motivated by the idea that libraries—physical and digital—are crucial institutional sites for the organization and production of knowledge. Organized around the biblical text and figure of Judith, The Judith Project is a yearlong technology-enabled, multidisciplinary collaborative effort in the humanities under the academic guidance of distinguished panel of Judith scholars from seven institutions of higher education in the United States, Europe, and the Middle East.

The mission of The Judith Project is to enhance scholarship on The Book of Judith and its later lexical and iconographical traditions on the theme of Judith and Holofernes in Western culture from antiquity to the present. The goal of The Judith Project is to leave a legacy including a searchable corpus of digital images created by ARTstor; a comprehensive bibliographic reference tool on the topos of Judith, created by the New York Public Library; and promote new scholarship. The Judith Project, embracing technological innovation, provides scholars with the best possible tools for multidisciplinary collaboration with the philosophy that creative scholarship is a collaborative process, and that new technology supports new forms of collaboration. Scholars participating in the upcoming Sword of Judith Conference at the New York Public Library will use this site as an entry to the private wiki (accessed here).
