Our Roastery

Roasting is at the heart of our business; we found, we restored, and by hand, little by little, piece by piece helped our 1955 cast iron vintage Probat roaster we call ‘Betty’ sing again. We are artisan coffee roasters on a mission to produce perfectly crafted coffee.

Meet Betty

We ‘fell’ for Betty the first time we saw her and in need of some serious restoration we all played a part in getting her up and running again. In return this Vintage 1955 60Kg cast iron Probat roaster now plays her part to ensure we achieve accurate and consistent roast profiles, hand crafted with precision and skill.

With this level of understanding and with head roaster David Faulkner, 2011 UK Cup Tasting Champion using all his senses, he takes our selected green beans on a very hot journey of change requiring the hands on artistry and calculated balance of time and temperature to steer Betty and reveal the unique character and flavour of our coffees.

Cupping for quality

As artisan roasters we like to experiment, test roast and cup our way through many different coffees to extract the best from each and extend the efforts of the grower through the process of roasting and into your cup. With our coffee lab approach and with every ounce of passion and promise we keep cupping and upping the quality of beans on offer to you.

With two other drum roasters supporting Betty and the ability to measure and adjust each step of the way we are able to build on our knowledge of every Extract roast to retain fruit and bright acidity in lighter coffees whilst developing the body and natural sweetness required for our Original Espresso, for which we are renowned for.
