I am so stoked for this!

They can go two ways with this:

1. The Sorceror Surpreme-THE definitive version, taken from the 70s when Roger Stern/Paul Smith did it. Director: Matt Reeves. Doctor Strange: Clive Owen
2. The Defenders- the newest incarnation, a looser interpretation. Director: Duncan Jones. Doctor Strange: Johnny Depp

My two cents on who should direct and star.

In a stand alone Dr. Strange movie I would want to see the film inspired by the Stern/Smith run. More than anything, that's what I want to see. Clive Own would make a fine Sorcerer Supreme.

Looking at what the unconfirmed reports of what the "phase 3" of Marvel cinematic universe will entail and what is supposedly being planned for Hulk, it could open up into a Defenders movie if done right. I'm sure if we would get Namor and Silver Surfer due to fox having the FF rights.

I've heard people say they've wanted Jonny Depp for Doctor Strange. I'm not totally against it, but I always thought there would be someone better.

However, if they are building for a Defenders movie like they did for Avengers... they're going to need at least one Robert Downey Jr level actor to draw a crowd. And I think Jonny Depp could be that guy.

As far as director? Part of me would love to see Terry Gilliam take that on. I'd love a bit of a psychedelic take on it. However, I've heard he's a little slow and difficult to work with. So my second (and possibly better) choice would be Guillermo del Toro.

And lastly, for a Defenders line up? Ant Man and Doctor Strange seem to be a given. But, I don't think they'd steal Hulk away from Avengers for film.

As Greggie said, I think Fox has the rights to Silver Surfer (did you mean to say not sure?)... but I don't know if they have the rights to Namor specifically. I could be wrong. Not my favorite character though.

I think Black Cat is a given, and Iron Fist would round the team off nicely.

From what I've read they are looking at doing a Planet Hulk story after Avengers 2 and World War Hulk for the Avengers 3. So far Phase Three is shaping up to start with Ant-Man and then move on to Hulk 2, Dr. Strange and Avengers 3.

Not sure I like that. The stories were fine, I just don't want to see WWH incorporated into the cinematic universe. I like the way this Banner/Hulk interacts with Stark, Thor and Cap, and I don't want to see that go away due to WWH.

I guess I should clarify my "Defenders" version-I'd like them to use Depp if they go with that characterization. With Ant Man coming along and Hulk finally getting a movie version correct, a Defenders movie or cameo would be great down the road.

However,if that's not in the plan, then definitely go with the Stern/Smith version and use Owen. Or Cumberbatch.
