Denver, CO – January 23, 2013 – Consumers today use mobile devices such as smart phones and tablets to do almost everything including banking, bill paying, and even trading stock. They are like mini-computers, but most are not protected from malware and other threats the way computers are. The Better Business Bureau (BBB) warns mobile device users to be cognizant of security risks and take the proper steps to protect their gadgets.
Technology experts have cited significant growth in threats against mobile devices in the last year. The Juniper Networks Mobile Threat Center, a research facility dedicated specifically to researching threats against mobile devices and technologies, saw a 155 percent increase in mobile malware in 2011 compared to 2010.
Malware often leads to identity theft as malware viruses are designed to steal passwords to bank accounts and other private records. The BBB advises consumers to treat their mobile device with just as much caution as they would their home computer.
