The trick with opening doors is being prepared to take the risk and walk through them.
Over the past few weeks, we’ve come to realize that we need to figure out how to make our lives about doing the things we’re passionate about, and learn to cut out the things we do to simply exist.
From our trip home from the Eastern Shore this afternoon/evening. The clouds were quite dramatic, and the angle of the sun provided incredible rim lighting, shadows and rays.
The images here were all recorded with the camera in my HTC Thunderbolt along Old Ocean City Highway near Berlin, MD, or along US Route 50. The images were uploaded from the phone to my dropbox, and then downloaded into my iPhone 3Gs, where they were each processed using the iOS version of Snapseed. They were then uploaded back to dropbox, and then uploaded to the site.
I replaced the battery in my aging iPhone 3Gs this evening with a battery kit I purchased from ifixit.com for about 1/3 the price of an Apple repair. And, it looks like the battery is actually an Apple part. Not sure how that works.
Anyway, I shot this with Instagram and added the “Octave” text with a little $2 app called Over. Finally, I added the watermark with Marksta. The image was uploaded to the site by saving the image out of Marksta to the phone’s camera roll. From there, I connected the phone to my Acer AspireOne netbook, and brought the image directly into WordPress.
I sure can’t wait to be able to pick up either an iPhone 4S or iPhone 5, even if I don’t use it as a phone. I am starting to really like Adroid Ice Cream Sandwich, even if my physical phone is a piece of garbage.

There was a bit of bouncing around for this one. The image started in CameraXE, a rather unremarkable camera app. Then I applied the effects in Instagram and saved the image to the camera roll, and added the watermark with Marksta. Then, I sucked the image back into Instagram for sharing.
Verizon finally made Android 4 (Ice Cream Sandwich) available for my HTC Thunderbolt yesterday. Of course, a newer version of Android (4.1 Jelly Bean) is already on the streets, but at least I got some love…. Anyway, I jumped on the upgrade. It took three tries, and well over an hour for the download/installation process to complete. ICS is a pretty decent upgrade over what I had been running (2.something-or-another). One of the things that was part of the new OS was a significant upgrade to the stock Camera app. The new app includes some of the things everyone is used to in a digital camera — in camera effects and different shooting modes.
I made this image in my dark office, with the ISO set to auto, and using the new “Close Up” photo mode. I’ve got the phone setup so that camera files are automatically uploaded to my dropbox account. So, within a few seconds, the image was available on my little laptop. I opened the image in Fotor (a freebie Windows8-native photo editng app) and did a slight crop, and then added the high-contrast Lomo effect, as well as the border and watermark.
Straight from the camera, the few images I’ve taken look better — noise seems better controlled, and the focus looks better. I’ll play around with some of the new photo effects later. They look pretty well thought out.
I also re-joined Instagram, for what that’s worth.
