AV News - The City has been working with Aliso Niguel High School students and staff to help ease traffic congestion around the school in the morning and afternoon Susan Espenschied www.alisolagunanews.com www.alisolagunanews.com/community/2013/03/07/av-news 2013-03-07T20:50:00Z 2013-03-07T20:58:17Z spacer spacer

City, high school working to ease traffic congestionspacer spacer

The City has been working with Aliso Niguel High School students and staff to help ease traffic congestion around the school in the morning and afternoon. This collaborative effort has resulted in four new drop-off and pick-up locations at the intersection of Wolverine Way (Aliso Viejo Parkway) and Aliso Creek Road.

There's a drop-off point for both directions of Aliso Viejo Parkway west of Aliso Creek Road; another for northbound Aliso Creek Road north of Wolverine Way; and a drop-off location for southbound Aliso Creek Road south of Wolverine. These areas conveniently allow for folks to pull over, drop off their children and continue along without traveling down Wolverine Way. All of the designated areas are marked with signs and a painted white curb.

During Wednesday's City Council meeting, a member of Aliso Niguel High School's energy
club spoke about how the plan can help prevent cars from stacking up on Wolverine Way and how much gas and money parents can save by taking advantage of the drop-off points. The student praised the City for heeding the school's call on the plan to ease traffic congestion in the area.

The City of Aliso Viejo and high school are encouraging people to use the drop-off points.

For more information, call 949-425-2530.

Save the date for Shredding/Identity Theft Protection and e-waste event in May spacer spacer

In an effort to protect residents from identity theft and provide a free public service, the City will host a Document Shredding/Identity Theft Protection and e-waste event on Saturday, May 18.

The event takes place from 9 a.m. to noon in Soka University parking lot A at 1 University Drive.

Identity theft is one of the fastest-growing crimes in the nation, and shredding documents with personal or financial information can be an effective measure of prevention.

Residents and businesses can bring standard-file boxes of paper records - canceled checks, pay stubs, credit card statements and more - that will be shredded onsite for free. The boxes of pages can contain staples and paper clips but must be free of notebooks or other bindings. Staff will also be on hand to answer questions and provide information about identity theft. There is a limit of 10 boxes per household or business.

Along with having their documents shred, residents can recycle electronic waste such as old cell phones, computers, monitors, printers, scanners, VCR/DVD players, TVs, microwaves and other small appliances free of charge in the Soka parking lot with e-Recycling of California. Large appliances, oils, solvents, tires and other household hazardous waste will not be accepted.

For more information about the May 18 event, contact Aliso Viejo City Clerk Susan Ramos at 949-425-2506 or sramos@cityofalisoviejo.com.
