Two volume set. 312+322pp. Duodecimo [19.5 cm] Beautifully rebound by Stikeman and company in full Morocco with decorative gilt stamping to the boards, backstrip and dentelles. Raised bands and gilt titles on backstrips. New marbled endsheets and pastedowns. The original cloth from the boards and backstrips are bound in at the rear. Both volume very good. Small discoloration on the front pastedown of volume one due to removal of a bookplate. Minor sporadis foxing. Otherwise this is a clean set that has been finely bound. Tipped in at the front of volume one is an inscription from the author that reads: "Trust in the Lord / and / Do good / Harriet Beecher Stowe / Nov. 3rd 1893." Nice example of this American literature high spot. BAL 19343. The original cloth bound in at the rear is binding style B. According to a note in 'National Era' (where the original serialization of this work appeared) April 1, 1852, the first printing of 5,000 copies, published on March 20th was already exhausted and a second print had appeared.
