University Committee on Copyright

Charge and Mission

The Vice Chancellor and Provost convened the University Committee on Copyright in 2007. The Provost has charged the Committee with completing the following tasks:

  • developing a copyright education program for faculty, students and staff to build awareness and practical knowledge of how to comply with copyright law, policies and guidelines;
  • identifying areas in which copyright policy development is needed and recommend new or revised institutional policies;
  • promulgating practical guides to assist University faculty, staff and students in making fair use determinations;
  • assessing the implications of new copyright legislation for University policy and practice;
  • monitoring trends in the copyright environment and make recommendations on how to align University copyright policy with the academic mission; and
  • making recommendations about University participation in national copyright discussions and initiatives.

Status

The Committee is reviewing a draft of the faculty education program, which will be published and made effective during the Spring 2012 semester.
