Kindergarten

We believe that children learn best when they are actively engaged in their own work and play. We support
a progressive developmental approach that allows each child to progress at his/her own pace. We actively  support this growth by offering learning activities that challenge the children to their very best. In our Full-Day Kindergarten, we carefully plan small group and individual activities in art, cooking, music, storytelling, movement, math, science, and reading as vehicles for achieving this personal growth.

We aim to serve as a support for whole families, working in partnership with parents to help meet the emotional, social, physical, and intellectual needs of their children. The Kindergarten curriculum is as follows: Reading/Literacy Development The program is comprised of oral language experiences, personal journal writing, and a combination of phonic and whole language activities. We strive for an appreciation and a love for reading. Most of our children are readers once they finish Kindergarten.

Math
The children use manipulatives and other materials to experience numbers. In addition, the children learn about graphing, patterning, and sorting items. Handwriting Each child will learn correct pencil strokes for clear identification of letters and numbers.

Science
We explore, sort, and compare our environment. We do a variety of hands-on materials in our discoveries. Social Studies We investigate several topics such as famous Americans, map skills, and learn many aspects about our country and its states.

Hebrew and Judaics
Each child will learn some simple Hebrew three times per week. The goal is to identify letters and to expose the children to sounds of Modern Hebrew in order to create an appreciation for future learning and an ability to use the language on a simple level. The children also learn Bible stories, songs, Jewish Ethics, and some simple prayers and blessings.

Art
Children will explore a large variety of art materials. They meet with the art teacher once per week in order
to help develop their innate creativity. In addition, the class uses art to reinforce learning in a variety of subject
and in free play.
