Trending: Swiffer Shoes

The Daily Mail describes the new Acne Studios footwear thusly: “Imagine a really small tutu, turn it upside down, and stick it on a flip flop.” Fabulous, I suppose, but these are from their FALL/WINTER collection. Huh?

A Shoe Without Soul

From Adrifts: What seems to have started as a semi-goof, took off on reddit and then kickstarter, taking the prototype of the godless, Bauhaus-inspired shoe and making it a reality. Sure, the handmade, nice quality leather shoes look nice, but the concept is what is really appealing. From the atheist soles to the black hole logo (“an inviting void, an exquisite blank canvas, begging to be filled with something meaningful to you”), to the idea of donating 10% of their profits to secular charities, demonstrating that you don’t need god to be good. The best thing is their hilarious slogan: “Now atheists have soles too!”

High Fashion: Crippling Heels

Artist Leanie van der Vyver, in collaboration with Dutch shoe designer René van den Berg (a couple of sadists, if you ask us), created Scary Beautiful, a concept pair of super-tall leather shoes where the much much higher high heel is in the front – out of necessity. To ambulate in them the wearer must place her weight on a piece that holds her shins. The result is a kind of painful-even-to-watch “art movement” that far outdoes anything Gaga has hobbled out on.
