Master Bath Renovation Part 1
When we bought our house last June, we fell in love immediately with it. Well, almost every part of it! The only thing we knew we wanted to change immediately was the master bathroom. The bathroom obviously was never updated and was original to when the home was bought by the original owners. It had a VERY small shower, 3×3 enough room to move around in and nothing else. There was an ugly countertop, a horrible waste of space floor to ceiling shelf, that couldn’t even be reached because the shelves were SO high! And the worst part of all, the horrible looking, black and white checkered tile, everywhere. Seriously, everywhere. Here are the before pics:
Horrible shower, no space. The shower was so high too And the previously mentioned horrible black and white tile.
A picture of the shelf I was talking about, do you see how high those shelves are? We couldn’t even reach them! And such a waste of space!
Not so pretty countertop. Horrible, tile wall again.
Horrible, old, looking exhaust fan!
We actually had to stop using the shower soon after we moved in. We noticed in the living room, which is directly below the master suite, there was a dent in the ceiling, where they obviously had a leak before and got it patched. So no matter if we were planning to remodel or not, we would have had to do so because of this leak.
We came to another issue when we went to explore in the attic, the exhaust fan wasn’t hooked up to anything outside, it just went into the attic. So my husband had to fix that as well.
We started by removing all of the tile. That took about two days. Taking tile down is no joke! Then we removed the old shower base and all the shelving.
Our plan is to have a 3×5 shower, with a regular shower head and a rain shower head, a recycled granite shower pan, poreclin tile on the shower ceiling, wall and bathroom floor, a quartz countertop and a framless glass door. I’m also going to repaint the bathroom vanity from it’s like oak color to a darker color.
So, we started demolition of the bathroom back in November, and unfortunately, 5 months later, we still are working on it! It’s getting there though, stay tuned for updates!
