About Alex

Hi, I’m Alex. I enjoy personal development, learning cool stuff, hanging out with cool people, and trying to have a positive impact on the world.

In general, I love reading and learning about just about anything, though I tend to focus on cognitive psychology, neuroscience, rationality, and philosophy. I do a diverse array of freelancing jobs from web development and copyediting to eBook formatting and research writing. See my list of current projects over on the right.

As of this writing I split my time between the following:

  • alexvermeer.com – This is my personal blog. I write about what I’m currently reading and researching, when I can find the time. I mostly research ways to improve my thinking and decision-making skills, low-hanging productivity and organization hacks, and general self-improvement. Currently my most popular work is an anti-procrastination poster, available for free at alexvermeer.com/getmotivated/.
  • intelligence.org – I work for the Machine Intelligence Research Institute, a non-profit research group trying to ensure that things turn out right for us human when machine intelligence surpasses human intelligence.
  • universityboulderingseries.ca – I’m addicted to bouldering (rock climbing sub-twenty-feet without rope), and I’m part of a team creating a University-based bouldering competition in Canada.

Feel free to get in touch with me for any reason by shooting an email.
