LEDC & LACC EXPLORE OPTIONS

added by admin 30 days ago under Events

The pending departures of Chief Executive Officers at the Laramie Economic Development Corporation (LEDC) and the Laramie Area Chamber of Commerce (LACC) have created a distinct and apparent opportunity for both organizations. Consistent with principles of good due diligence and fiduciary responsibilities, the Board leadership for both business development entities are exploring options related to maximizing the resources and energy of these organizations for the benefit of the City of Laramie and Albany County communities.

According to Megan Goetz, Board of Directors Chair for LEDC, "It just makes good sense at this rather unique time, to explore the pros and cons of combining forces in these two great organizations that have so successfully pursued their independent yet harmonious missions. Both of our organizations are always striving to provide our investors/members maximum benefits while being good stewards of our financial resources. In today's economic climate and consistent with Laramie's business community, it makes sense to take a step back and assess our organizations' missions and resources as we both are positioned to pursue the hiring of our next leaders. "

Martin Axlund, Board Chair for LACC, noted, "There has been a spirit of collaboration and mutual support between LACC and LEDC for many years. Regardless of the outcome of our investigations into whether or not it's advantageous to share resources, we expect that synergy to continue. At this stage, we have made no decisions, but are simply exploring our options."

A committee consisting of Executive Board officers and members from both LEDC and LACC has been created to study recent examples of economic development and chamber of commerce shared structures, missions and resources within other regional and national communities. That committee is also charged with the responsibility for assessing and contrasting a variety of operating approaches available. The committee is also considering whether a professional advisor would be fruitful for evaluation purposes. Final conclusions reached will have a direct impact on the qualifications, experience and certifications sought in recruiting leadership for these two major Laramie forces in an effort to maximize membership benefits and provide the best economic climate for current and new businesses.
